25 August 2005 Alice Spence PR's show the baptism of Alice Spence, daughter of Christopher and Dinah, weaver, of Gilling, on the 28th December 1760 . PR's for St Agatha's, Gilling shows the baptism on 7th May 1786 of Ralph, bastard son of Alice Spence, pauper. The 1841 census for
Gilling shows - (SCHI shows the death of an Alice Spence in Richmond Yks, June q 1846 - ref 24 352. Certificate shows it to be - Alice Spence, aged 93, widow of Ralph Spence, tailor. Died at Richmond Workhouse as the result of old age on 12th June 1846. ) NBI shows burial of Alice Spence aged 93 at Richmond, Yks on 14 June 1846. Actual burial entry for Richmond shows - Alice Spence of Richmond aged 93 buried on June 14th 1846 by David Wright. As son Ralph had died two years prior to Alice's death I can only assume that whoever registered her death assumed he was her husband rather than her son.
