Robert's second name of McGraw was carried down from his mother's maiden name of McGraw.

Bob died in Ayr, Scotland on 6th June 2000 and was cremated at the crematorium in Ayr about the 8th June 2000. Bob was given a military style funeral with his Legion comrades on guard, and a piper playing. The Crematorium was packed with friends and relatives, which showed how popular he was. (written in a letter from Ann Nicoll, Bobs Niece ) Ann sent bobs Tartan hat and scarf, and his legion tie to Bill McKie in Australia. Bill and Bob wrote to each other over a period of about 13 years.Robert McGraw Mckie served in the Royal Artillery for several years.
