WALKO ![]() |
JOSEPH ANDREW WALKO Joseph Andrew Walko died Wednesday, April 28, 2004. A man of great courage is a man who saved his crewmembers' lives during a difficult mission for the Air Corps during World War II. A man of great courage is a man who worked two jobs to assure the well being of his family; to make his house a home. This man of courage lovingly cared for his wife during her 10-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. This man of courage joined his wife "Janie" in glory on April 28, 2004. He survived his beloved "Janie" by a mere three months. Joseph Andrew Walko Sr. was born Oct. 25, 1921, in McKees Rocks. He graduated from Miles Bryan High School, McKees Rocks, in 1942. Joseph's career of 47 years with P&LE Railroad was interrupted by service to his country during World War II with the U.S. Air Corps 389 Bomb Squad. He was a ball turret gunner with the infamous B-24 2nd Air Division. Joe is the father of Joe Jr. (Barbara), Jan (Ken Sr.) MOLINERO and Judi (Ron Sr.) DOUTT. Joe and Janie have eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren, who dearly loved their granddad and great-granddad. His family is blessed with loving memories of special times spent with him. Joe was well known as the "walking man" of the rocks. He was once interviewed by Vince Leonard of the McKees Rocks Gazette, for Joe knew everyone, everywhere. When we remember Joe, we will remember a man who was dedicated to family, loved by his wife dearly, and is forever vacationing at the sea with his "Janie."
