Loving father of Marialana (Paul) BOWSER, and the late Richard A. Safranek. Brother of Ann LEWANDOWSKI, Mary Jane CHARLTON, and the late William, August, Joseph, Louis, Charles Safranek, Margaret BURNHAM & Agnes TISAK. Grandfather of Lori ZENESKI, Paul R. Bowser Jr., Jodi GARDNER, and Richard, Michael & Andrew Safranek, and the late Brian Jude Bowser. Great-grandfather of 12. Also four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. ALBERT J.  SAMBOLD
Monday, November 23, 1998. HAMPTON, NH - Albert J. Sambold, 64, of 35 Milburn Ave., died Friday at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.   He was born in McKees Rocks, Pa., the son of the late Albert and Margaret (KRAUTH) Sambold. He had been a Hampton resident of the past 32 years. He had previously resided in Pennsylvania, Kansas and Nebraska.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served three tours of duty in Vietnam as a navigator. He retired in 1974. He held the rank of colonel in the Civic Air Patrol (CAP) and was in command of the New Hampshire Wing of the CAP's Northeast Reigion. He taught Aerospace Education for the Seacoast Composite of the CAP. He also owned and operated Fitts Photo. He was the scout master of the former Troop 178, BSA of Hampton, founder and past president of the R/C Aces in North Hampton, past president of the Pease Chapter of the Retired Air Force Association, and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Cessna Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton, and was a recipient of the Points of Light Award for volunteerism. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margie (ENGHARDT) Sambold of Hampton; one son, A. James Sambold Jr. of Hampton;  two daughters, Sylvia GENTHNER  of Hampton Falls and Angela Sambold of Concord; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton tomorrow at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. SAMPSON CHARLES H. SAMPSON
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Charles H. Sampson, 78, formerly of Cuyahoga Falls
died Nov. 1.  He was born in McKees Rocks, Pa., and had been a resident of Florida since 1980. He retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber with 20 years service, and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, Fla.  He is survived by his wife, Thelma Irene; stepdaughter, Patricia Gill of Virginia; brother, Clyde Sampson of Cuyahoga Falls; two grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at the McGowan-Reid & Santos Funeral Home, with Rev. John K. Sederwall officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.

SANTUCCI ANNA KACHNYCH SANTUCCI
Anna Kachnych Santucci, 86, a lifetime resident of Moon Township, died Jan. 23, 1999 at Atrium I. She was born Nov. 4, 1912 in McKees Rocks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Santucci, and by a sister, Fay BRAMWELL. Mrs. Santucci was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church in Coraopolis. Surviving are her son, Anthony Santucci of Moon; a sister, Mary O'HARA of McKees Rocks; her brother, John Kachnych; and a niece and a nephew. Friends were received at Anthony J. SCHELIEN  WILLIAM J. SCHELIEN
William J. Schelien, 88, of Cabot died Saturday, April 17, 2004, in Lund Care Center at Concordia Home.  Born April 17, 1916, in McKees Rocks, he was the son of Gottlieb and Helen LUECK SCHELIEN. He was a graduate of Stowe High School. Mr. Schelien worked as a supervisor for Jones & Laughlin Steel in the south side of Pittsburgh for 41 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot, Lutheran Laymen's League, and Aid Association for Lutherans. He was a former member of the Pittsburgh Lutheran Chorus for 50 years. Surviving are his wife, Margaret F. FOSTER Schelien; a daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Schelien of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Emma A. Schelien of Cabot and Mrs. Elsie HEINLEIN and Mrs. Hilda OSWALD, both of Coraopolis. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at

SCHELLINK Frieda M. Schellink, 89, of Urbana, a former Palatine resident, passed away at 3:21 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.  A memorial service will be held at noon Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, 302 W. Church St., Champaign, with Dr. Rick Snyder officiating. There will be no visitation. Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton is in charge of arrangements. The family will greet their friends immediately after the memorial service at the church.  Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, with Rev. Dianne Shields officiating.  Mrs. Schellink was born Sept. 10, 1919, at McKees Rocks, Pa., the daughter of Frank and Carolina Leyrer GILLY.  She married Adrian J. Schellink Oct. 4, 1947, in Chicago. She and her husband moved to Savoy and Urbana in 2005.
She is survived by her husband of Urbana; one son, Larry (Denese) Schellink of Elk Grove, Calif.; one daughter, Linda (John) HIGGINS of Mahomet; and five grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  Mrs. Schellink was co-owner of Cabinet Pak Kitchens in Des Plaines and had been a legal secretary for the federal government. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights. She was a professional vocalist and also played the piano and organ. She enjoyed playing canasta.  Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign or the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights.
SCHNEIDER IRENE A. SCHNEIDER
Irene A. Schneider, 89, of Concordia Lutheran Home, Cabot, formerly of Washington Township, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights. Born Feb. 20, 1915, in McKees Rocks, she was the daughter of John and Mary YUNKER TAYLOR.
She was an elementary school teacher for the Kiski School District for 10 years and retired in 1979. She was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Apollo, where she was a member of the Rosary Confraternity. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a member of the Democratic Committee and an alumni of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
She was also involved with Meals-On-Wheels and enjoyed playing cards, singing and crafts.
She is survived by three sons, George H. “Tink” Schneider and his wife, Carol, of Washington Township, John T. Schneider and his wife, Alice, of Enon Valley, and James C. Schneider and his wife, Loretta, of Wilmington, Del.; two daughters, Jane MILLER and her husband, Jon, of Saxonburg, and Lucy CERASO and her husband, Charles, of Cumming, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George Schneider, who died in 1989; three sisters, Leah SONNETT, Flavia WALLACE and Mary CONWAY; and a great-granddaughter, Rhiannon Schneider. Friends  will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME, 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo, PA 15613. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Apollo. The Rev. John T. Sweeney will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.

Fred E. Schubert, head teller 44 years at the Bank of McKees Rocks (now Equibank), died of a
heart attack Thursday night, April 12, 1981 at his home at 11 Crestview Drive, Kennedy Township. Mr. Schubert, 78, who retired in 1970, was a former CPA for the Triangle Oil Co. of Kennedy Township. He was a member of Christ Community Church of McKees rocks and a former member of its Session and board of trustees. He was former church treasurer and superintendent of its Sabbath School. He was a member of Chartiers Valley Lodge 747 F&AM, Pennsylvania Consistory, Valley of Pittsburgh, and Syria Temple. Surviving are his wife, Marie SLANEY Schubert; a daughter, Jane TIDWELL; three sons, Fred G., Donald E. and John W. Schubert; a sister, Louise HAINES; a brother Carl; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call from noon to 4 and 7 to 9pm today at the Stover Funeral Home, 534 Island Ave., McKees Rocks, where services will be at 11am tomorrow. Age 91, on June 21, 2002, resided at the Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont, originally from McKees Rocks. Loving wife of the late Charles G. Schuster; mother of Catherine KANOZA of Tampa, FL & Janet ZALESKI of Lower Burrell, PA; sister of William BLUMLING of McKees Rocks; grandmother of Suzanne O'RORKE, Theodore Kanoza, Christine MANCINI & Paul CHANDLER; great-grandmother of Zachary Chandler, Brittany, Jesse & Jacob Kanoza; also survived by many nieces & nephews & great nieces & great nephews. SEAGER RUTH M. STRUBLE SEAGER
BLAIN - Ruth M. (Struble) Seager, 84, of Blain RR1 died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in the Sara Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. Born July 24, 1917, in McKees Rocks, she was the daughter of the late Daniel E. and Mary W. (McMULLEN) Struble. Her husband, John F. Seager, preceded her in death. Surviving are: a son, Donald E. Seager, Loysville RR1, two daughters, Barbara J. BOWER and Linda L. Seager, both of Blain RR1; and five grandchildren. She had attended the former Carlisle Commercial College. She was retired from the Perry Health Center, Loysville and had also worked at Carlisle Hospital, the State Civil Service Commission, Harrisburg and the Blain Garment Factory. She was a member of the New Germantown United Methodist Church, New Germantown, where she taught Sunday school for over 70 years and played the piano and organ for over 50 years. She was also president of United Methodist Women's Society. She was also a member of the Blain Ambulance Club, the ladies auxiliary of the Blain Fire Company, and the Blain Senior Citizen's Center. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing and church work. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Germantown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald Raffensperger and the Rev. Dale Dobbs officiating. Burial will be in the Blain Cemetery, Blain RR1. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. WILLIAM R. SHANCEY
William R. Shancey, 74, of Stowe, a retired welder for Dravo Corp., died of cancer Thursday at Allegheny General Hospital. Mr. Shancey retired in 1978 after 42 years of service at Dravo's light metals plant and boat yard in Neville Island. He was a World War II veteran and served with the Army counterintelligence corps. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Stowe.  He is survived by his wife, Ann ANDERSON Shancey; a daughter, Marge CHEHANSKY of San Diego; a son, William of McKees Rocks; his mother, Helen of McKees Rocks; two brothers, Edward of Dunnellon, Fla., and Richard E. of Stowe; a sister, Helen DRISKO of Youngstown, Ohio; and three grandchildren. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Stover Funeral Home, 534 Island

JOSEPH SHIMKO, 90 of Mentor passed away April 5, 2008. Born July 27, 1917, in Mckees Rock, PA. A U.S. Army veteran, he earned a BA in Business from Western Reserve University, and worked for Carborundum Abrasive Manufacturing until his retirement. He was a charter Member of Faith Lutheran Church. Survived by his wife, Betty, of 61 years. Children: Gregory of Detroit, MI; Susan SAARI of Mentor, Joseph Timothy (Christee) of Forth Worth, TX; Stephan (Jenne) of Hawaii; Grandchildren, Brant (Julie); Stephanie (John); Elizabeth (Kevin), Josh, and Amanda. Great-grandchildren Meghan, Leia and Elijah Joseph. Sisters Mary WOHLGEMUTH of Castle Rock, CO and Mary RADOS of Naples, FL. Preceded in death by mother Elizabeth MIZISIN. Rose Marie Sikora, 81, of Nazareth, died March 4, 2008 in Easton Hospital. She was the wife of John J. Sikora, who died Nov. 5, 2000. She was born Aug. 29, 1926 in McKees Rocks, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Franceska (Horvath) KOGER.  She was a homemaker. Rose Marie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Nazareth. She was a former member of Nazareth Vigilance Hose Company. She was a graduate of Stowe High School.  She is survived by a daughter, Joanne, wife of Edward ROSSNER, of Forks Township; two grandchildren, John Rossner and Debra BORGO; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Borgo and Virginia LENDER.  Services: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Reichel Funeral Homes Inc., 220 Washington Park, Nazareth. SILVERMAN JERRY T. SILVERMAN
Jerry T. Silverman, retired president of Retail Ventures Inc., died of a stroke Saturday in West Palm Beach, Fla.Mr. Silverman, 63, formerly of Squirrel Hill, began his business at the first Silverman's store in McKees Rocks and went on with his brother, Mark of Mt. Lebanon, to build a nationwide chain of 285 stores known as Silverman's and American Eagle Outfitter which they operated until they sold the business recently.  He also was an amateur jazz trumpet player.  He received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. Besides his brother, he is survived by his wife, Marjorie Katz Silverman; a son, Stephen M. of Shadyside; and a daughter, Jane Ellen of New York City. SILVETTE HERBERT SILVETTE
Dr. Herbert Silvette, 94, of "Low Gear," Stanardsville, Virginia, died February 14, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was born in McKee's Rock, Pa., on December 23, 1907, the son of the late Ellis M. and Ella COHAN Silvette. Dr. Silvette attended New York University, the University of Richmond and the University of Virginia and received the degrees of BS and MS in 1932, as well as a Ph.D. in Physiology in 1934. In 1931, he was a Porter Fellow of APS, and he held an E.R. Squibb & Sons Fellowship in Physiology in 1936; he was an AMA Fellow in 1945 and in 1946 was a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellow. Throughout his long career, he was associated with the University of Virginia Medical College, Meharry Medical College, the University of Washington and the Medical College of Virginia, teaching both physiology and pharmacology. He resigned in January 1947 due to poor health. Dr. Silvette published over 120 papers and books on subjects in the medical field as well as novels and volumes of lyric poetry including Great Man's Ape, The Doctor on the Stage, The Goose's Tale, Eve's Second Apple, Maiden Voyage, Grave Example, The Medlars, My Orange Has Bitter Rind, Never Say Die, Come Unto Me, Tobacco (with P.S. Larson and H.B. Haag: supplemented with P.S. Larson in 1968, 1971 and 1975), Cultural Pharmacology (1974). He catalogued the works of Philemon Holland in 1940 and continued his work on Holland through 1946. Services will be private. Friends and colleagues who wish to honor Dr. Silvette are asked to donate to the charity of their choice.
SIMONETTE  CATHERINE I. "KATIE" SIMONETTE
Catherine I. "Katie" Simonette, 86, a life long resident of Coraopolis, died on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Ohio Valley General Hospital in Kennedy Township. She was born in McKees Rocks on June 17, 1920, a daughter of the late John and Eva (Stodnic) Lesovitch. Mrs. Simonette worked for 13 years for the housekeeping department at the downtown Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel. Surviving are her children, William, Robert and Janet Simonette; siblings, Stella Stewart and Howard and William Lesovitch, all of Coraopolis; grandchildren, Lisa Wodarek of Moon Township and Jason Simonette of Coraopolis; and great-grandchildren, Kelly Kruzelyak and Richard Wodarek. Friends were received in Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home where a blessing service was held with the Rev. Michael Caridi officiating. SINKWICH FRANK SINKWICH
Frank Sinkwich, who died Monday at 70 after a lengthy illness. The quiet and painfully shy Sinkwich became the first SEC player to win the Heisman Trophy in 1942. Born in McKees Rock, Pa., Sinkwich was the son of Croatian parents who came to the United States from Soviet Georgia. Sinkwich had a successful pro career with the Detroit Lions until a knee injury in 1945 forced him out of pro football. After two knee operations, Sinkwich tried a comeback with the New York Yankees in 1946 and 1947, after which he retired. He returned to Athens and began a beer and wine distributorship. He was lured away for several years as the head football coach at Tampa University before returning to Athens, where he lived until his death. Funeral services for Sinkwich will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church at 355 Pulaski St. in Athens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Athens Regional Development Council, c/o Athens Regional Medical Center, Fund Development, Athens, Ga., 30613. Sinkwich is survived by a son, Frank Sinkwich of Athens; a daughter, Francine Sinkwich-Minshew of Sandy Springs, and two sisters, Violet FLASK of Youngstown, Ohio, and Eleanor SHUFFLEBAGER of Lehigh, Fla. Betty C. Skilling, 83, of Sugar Grove, IL passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Michealsen Healthcare Center in Batavia. Betty was born June 27, 1924 in McKees Rocks, PA, the daughter of John and Marie (nee McNicholas) CLARKE. Betty was united in marriage to Thomas E. Skilling on January 27, 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA. She is survived by her three sons, Tom, Jeff (Rebecca) and Mark (Sukran); a daughter, Sue (Jeff) ERICKSON; four grandchildren, Kristen, Jeffrey, John Taylor, and Aysesu. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas. All funeral services were held privately.

SKORUPSKI
Walter B. Skorupski, 90, of Smiths Creek, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at home surrounded by his family.  He was born April 14, 1918 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania to the late Walter and Viola Skorupski. He married Doris E. STAHL on October 6, 1952 in St. Clair.  Mr. Skorupski retired from Laborer's Local #463. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of Smiths Creek American Legion Post #525. He enjoyed gardening, farming, riding his tractor, tinkering and caring for his beloved fish in his pond.  He is survived by his wife, Doris; two daughters, Tammy (John) NAVARRO and Patricia GLUCKSTAD, all of Smiths Creek; a son, Rex RAWLINGS of Indiana; four grandchildren, Ed RESPONDEK, David PORTIS, Shawn FURNESS and Joshua KANE; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene (Dan) JANKOWSKI of Warren; many nieces and nephews; and family friends, Don and Kathy Loxton and Thomas Portis, his closest and dearest friend. Steve Solomon, 95, of Salem, Ohio, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at his home after congestive heart failure.  Born July 23, 1909, in McKees Rocks, he was the son of Stephan and Florence FEREZAN Solomon. He retired in 1974 as a foreman at Halstead & Mitchell in Zelienople after 25 years. He previously worked at Ford Motor Co. in Detroit, Mich., for three years and then worked at the Eljer Co. in Salem as a welder for five years.  He lived in Zelienople for 42 years before moving to Salem 20 years ago.  Mr. Solomon was a member of St. Elias Romanian Orthodox Church in Ellwood City, the Salem Senior Citizens and the Salem Area Retired Workers. He was an avid walker and bicyclist. Survivors include his wife, Mary ROHAN Solomon, whom he married Sept. 3, 1938; two daughters, Joan JANSHEGO of Washington, D.C., and Stephanie SKURCENSKI of Bartlesville, Okla.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Friends  will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at STARK MEMORIAL funeral home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, Ohio. John Spilko, age 77, 1853 East 2nd Street, died Saturday evening, August 23, 2008, at the Memorial Herman NE Hospital, Humble, Texas following a brief illness. He was born in McKees Rocks, Pa., May 17, 1931, son of the late Dan and Olga TRISKA Spilko. He lived in Erie all of his life. John was employed as a social worker with the PA State Department of Public Welfare in the State Blind Pension Program for 30 years retiring in 1986. Following retirement, he worked for the Erie Center for the Blind & Visually Handicapped for 14 years, retiring in 2000. He was a 1948 graduate of Erie Technical High School and received his Masters Degree in Sociology from Gannon College. John served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Catholic Church and the second Curcillo class. He enjoyed walking, fishing, gardening and loved spending time with his wife and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Christine Hammann Spilko, one son, Matthew Spilko and his wife Karen of Erie, one daughter, Rebecca KERN and her husband Kevin of Houston, Texas and three grandchildren, Isaac Spilko and Jessica and Emily Kern. Virginia Ruth Stallings, a retired department store clerk, died of heart disease and dementia Feb. 14 at Heritage Harbour Health and Rehabilitation Center. The Annapolis resident was 90.
Born Virginia Ruth HASENEI in McKees Rocks, Pa., she moved to Baltimore's Pimlico area and was a 1934 graduate of Western High School.  In 1953, she began work in the women's glove department at Hutzler's department store, later joining its display and accounts payable departments. She retired in 1979 and moved to Annapolis in 1997, after residing many years in Pikesville.  She enjoyed traveling, needlework and German cooking.  Services were held Monday in Severna Park.  Survivors include a daughter, Arline Stallings KIRK of Annapolis; two brothers, Alfred Hasenei and Duane Hasenei, both of Baltimore; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  Her first husband, John Edward Stallings, died in 1945. Her second husband, Maurice Ellsworth FLATHER, died in 1997. A daughter, Janice Irene WARDEN, died in 1957.

Betty G. Starner, 66, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at her home.  Born Sept. 27, 1941, in Mckees Rocks, Pa., she was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. Mrs. Starner was a former X-ray technologist in Zanesville, former co-owner of "Catering Friends" in New Lexington and an aide at New Lexington Elementary for the past 10 years. She enjoyed making and buying crafts.  Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Richard E. Starner, whom she married Aug. 10, 1963; her parents, Albert and Sophie KOCAY FOGARTY; a daughter, Christine L. McCABE and friend, John Morgan; sons, Shawn R. (Audra) Starner, all of New Lexington, and Jason E. (Carrie) Starner of Lebanon; grandchildren, Kaylee and Lauren McCabe and Zachary Starner; a sister, Sister Joanne Fogarty OSF; brothers, Butch (Emily) Fogarty and Jim (Vickie) Fogarty; numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. Nicholas "Starr" Staroschack, a retired home contractor, died Monday of kidney disease at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Oakland.  Mr. Staroschack, 67, of Stowe was the founder of Starr Sales Contracting and Home Remodeling and owned the business for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.  Surviving are his wife, Pauline; a daughter, Mary Katherine PIETRANTONIO of Kennedy; a son, Mark R. FOLLEN of Stowe; three sisters, Jule and Kay Staroschuck of Stowe and Helen SCHIMMEL of Coraopolis; and a brother, Andy Staroschuck of Robinson.  Jacob "Jake" Stikarofsky, operator of Jake's Garage, Kennedy Township, for the past 25 years, died of a heart attack last night, July 5, 1978,  in Ohio Valley Hospital. Mr. Stikarofsky, 55, was a veteran of World War II and lived in Kennedy Township for more than 40 years. He was a member and former deacon of the Ken Mawr United Presbyterian Church, and a member of Chartiers Valley Lodge No. 747 F&AM, and the Islam Grotto. He is survived by his wife Irene; a daughter, Mary Lou ROTE, a son, Jacob Jr., all of Kennedy Township; and four sisters, Marie KASPERSKI of Robinson Township, and Emma BARBER, Alice SEELEY, and Helen TAUNEY, all of Kennedy Township, and three grandchildren. Anna Chruszcz Stoner, 92, of Albion, Pa., passed away May 25, 2007.  She was born to the late Dymytro and Anastasia (LABANT) Chruszcz on December 14, 1914 in McKees Rocks, Pa. When she was nine months old the family moved back to the Ukraine to assist on the family farm. In 1933, Anna and her older brother Peter left Wola Petrovia, Poland, for a turbulent voyage to America. She went back to McKees Rocks, Pa., and worked at various jobs including a steel mill and as a riveter in a munitions plant during WWII. She met her future husband, Michael Stoner, a police officer, walking back and forth to work. Anna was a talented quilter and won ribbons at local fairs. She also liked to crochet and embroider. She always had many flower gardens around her home and always a large vegetable garden. She loved the outdoors, and animals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Michael in 1972, and her brother Peter in 1991. Anna is survived by her daughter Linda RISLEY, with whom she made her home; her brother, John (Nancy) Chruszcz, her sister Mary SJPYNDA, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved little beagle "Bonney", devoted Basset "Xena" and her cat "Baby."  McKees Rocks funeral director for more than 55 years, died of a stroke Friday, Feb 9, 1992, at Asbury Heights Nursing Center in Mt. Lebanon.  Mr. Stover, 81, owned Stover Funeral Home in McKees Rocks and was associated with Hershberger-Stover Funeral Home in Crafton.  He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Eckels Mortuary School in Philadelphia.  Mr. Stover was a former district governor and secretary of the National Funeral Directors Association and a former president and trustee of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association.  Surviving are three sons, Hayes C. of McCandless, Dr. Mervin C. Mary Sobek Suchanec, age 95, of Wilmington, DE, passed away surrounded by her beloved family on Friday, August 17, 2007.  Mary, daughter of the late John and Mary Sobek, was born in Bardejov, Czechoslovakia on January 27, 1912. Formerly a resident of McKees Rocks and Industry, PA, Mary resided in Wilmington, DE for the past 5 years. A devout Roman Catholic, Mary served as a lay minister for St. Christine's of Industry, PA. She was also the head chef at the Willows Restaurant for over 15 years. Mary's other passions included cooking pirogies for family gatherings, doing the Polka, crocheting and tending her gardens.  She was the center of her family, a devoted friend, and deeply cherished by everyone she touched.
Mary's proudest moment was becoming a United States Citizen in 1955.  Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Stephen M. Suchanec, former Mayor of Industry, PA. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ann MEREDITH; step sister, Delores ABBOTT; brothers, John JASAK and Joseph Jasak; and her grandson, Jeffrey Suchanec. She is survived by her sisters, Rose BOND, of San Diego, CA, Helen PUTAS of Los Angeles, CA, Josephine OLUP of Pittsburgh, PA; and sister-in-law, Katherine Jasak of Pittsburgh, PA. Mary is also survived by her 4 sons, Steven and his wife, Barbara of Sarasota, FL; Raymond and his wife, Dee, of Beaver, PA, Richard and his wife, Elizabeth of Newark, DE, John and his wife, Reid, of Newark, DE; and her daughter Rosemarie GRIZZARD and her husband, John of Scottsdale, AZ. Joseph J.Surkosky, 70, of Butler, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Butler Memorial Hospital.  Born Oct. 10, 1934, in McKees Rocks, he was a son of the late Andrew George and Mary Elizabeth SIKIRICA SURKOSKY. He had formerly lived in McKees Rocks, Bellevue and Penn Hills. He had worked for the former H.K. Porter Co., currently HBD Industries, for 45 years and retired as a supervisor of direct mail. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the Slovak Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion Post 980 in Penn Hills. Mr. Surkosky was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, watching football and reading. He also enjoyed spending time with and teaching his grandchildren.  Surviving are his loving wife, Judith Rosalia KEAY Surkosky, whom he married Feb. 23, 1957; three daughters and their husbands: Cynthia S. HACKETT and John F. of Verona, Sondra A. PIPES and Kurt S. of Butler, and Dr. Andrea A. YORK and Carl D. of Rochester, N.Y.; one son and his wife, Dr. Stuart J. Surkosky and Dawn L. Cpl. William SWOAGER, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. SWOAGER of R. D. 1, McKees Rocks, but formerly of Imperial, stationed with the 351st Infantry Regiment at Trieste, Italy, died March 9, 1954, of severe body burns. Corporal SWOAGER was born April 5, 1931, in Imperial, and attended West Allegheny high school. He later was employed by Jones & Laughlin, Aliquippa, prior to entering the service Oct. 16, 1952. He received his basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., was a member of the tank corps, and went overseas March 27, 1953. Corporal SWOAGER is survived by his parents, a sister, Garnet; two brothers, Jon and James, all at home; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John WILSON of Enlow. The body was accompanied home by Cpl. Earl GODSHALL. Friends were received at the Weir funeral home, where military funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, under the direction of the Montour Valley VFW Post 7714, accompanied by members of Wesoloski-Hays American Legion Post 335. Roman Szpur, 91, of Kettering, OH passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008. He was born on November 20, 1916 in McKees Rocks, PA and raised near Lwow, Poland. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, then joined the Air Force at Wright Field, resigning in 1963. He was an inventor, developer, and trouble shooter in laser tech, lighting systems, medical devices, and numerous other products. He held more than 40 patents. He was a loving husband to his wife and willing friend to all he met. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; stepsons, Steve GARY of CA, and Richard and wife Kristen Gary of Beavercreek, OH; and loving niece Michael NYLAN of CA. No services will be held.
