More Odds and Ends

I've created an adobe acrobat version of a file that contains a whole lot of miscellaneous McGing genealogy, including McGing families that I can't connect to mine, or the odd McGing bits and pieces I've pulled together and while it's all interesting, it's a raw jumble. It's well worth the look so click here to check it out. It will be updated on an as available basis.

I also have 2 versions of an adobe acrobat version of a large family history chart that you may find interesting. The 1st is basically a Family Tree Maker "All-in-One" view of all the data that I have. It's huge to print, but viewing is easy enough. This too changes frequently, as I update the main files. The 2nd is the same file but it only contains connected families; the yet unconnected people shown in the other view are missing from this one. This makes it smaller. Both take up a LOT of room on your wall, if you print them out and tape them together. I can make these available to serious researchers, so email me if you'd want to obtain these.

Obituary

Mary A. Kelly Mary A. (nee McGing) Kelly, 73, a 16-year resident of Buffalo Grove, died April 2, 2000 at her home. A funeral Mass was celebrated April 5, 2000 at St. Mary Church with interment in St. Mary Cemetery in Buffalo Grove.

Born on High Street in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, on July 6, 1926, she had been a 37-year resident of Chicago before moving to Buffalo Grove. She was retired from the Chicago Board of Education, where she had worked for 15 years.

She is survived by her son, Patrick J. (Regina L.); grandchildren, Deanna, Tim, Kevin and Kurt; and sisters, Sally Zumpf and Bee (Walter) Drungil. She was preceded in death in 1998 by her husband, Timothy J. Arrangements were made with Grove Memorial Chapel, Buffalo Grove.

Enter McGing and nothing comes up, but McGinn gets this:

McGinn John at resid., 41 E. Huron st., husband of Mary, nee Gill, brother of Michael and James McGinn, aged 31 yrs., native of Westport, Co. Mayo. Funeral from Holy Name Cathedral to Calvary - Jan. 19, 1893 (1) McGinn, Annie, June 22, 1888, daughter of John and Mary, of Westport, Co. Mayo, aged 4 yrs. Funeral from resid., 63 Huron st. to Calvary (1)

O'Donnell Anthony baptised Oct. 25, 1883 in Louisburg, Mayo of Patrick O'Donnell and Mary O'Malley, residence at 7124 S. Marshfield, married Oct. 1, 1913 to Margaret Kane baptised Sep. 23, 1888 in Kilinnarvalla, Mayo of Peter Kane and Mary McGinn, residence at 622 W. 47th Pl (6)

The first is a death record of John McGinn of Westport in Chicago. Also, he had a daughter named Annie who died in 1888.

The 2nd is a marriage record with lots of parents data. I have no Kane that matches but I do have a Mary McGing and Peter Kean that looks good; no daughter Margaret though and I don't know where Kilinnarvalla is.

Given that there really aren't any MGinns in Westport at that time, I'm guessing these are likely McGings.

In looking at the SSDI, I see that there was an Austin James McGing born in 1890 in Springfield who had an Austin McGing as father. Seems likely this is that fellas dad, and perhaps his fathers brother?

Description: Several years ago, the Iron Range Research Center purchased the entire set of microfilmed Minnesota County Naturalization Records (87 counties) from the Minnesota Historical Society. Because the record set was one of the most widely used records in the Iron Range Research Center, it quickly became apparent that the indexes to the records were incomplete and often inaccurate. Conrad Peterzen, a Research Center volunteer, resolved to make a new comprehensive index to the entire set. His index recorded the name of each person requesting citizenship and included the following information: spouse's name, county of residence, microfilm reel reference, print volume, and page number. The index also includes records of people who were denied citizenship and those who never completed the process. The present version of the index contains 57 out of the 87 counties and roughly 500,000 records. The fact that spouses are listed in the index can be especially important because before 1922, women became citizens through their husbands and did not have their own papers. This index provides the necessary information for researchers to access the original papers in the microfilm collection. The microfilmed papers contain most of the relevant genealogical information, i.e., dates and places of birth and marriage. Note: While most of the locations refer to counties, the following names are cities in St. Louis County: Virginia, Hibbing, Ely, and Duluth. Extended Description: To receive additional information and forms to access your ancestor's naturalization documents, please contact: http://www.ironworld.com/ancestry Or, to request a hard copy of the Iron Range Research Center Library and Archives Handbook, along with related forms, please send check or money order in the amount of $3.50, payable to "IRRC" and mail to: Iron Range Research Center ATTN: Naturalization PO Box 392, Hwy 169 W. Description: In 1890, the metropolitan area of Philadelphia boasted a population of over 1 million. This city directory, originally published in 1891 and now taken from microfilm, is an index to the residents of this important U.S. city. With almost a quarter of a million persons, this database includes names, occupations, and addresses for the residents of the city proper. For the researcher of Philadelphian ancestors this can be an extremely valuable collection, especially if those ancestors were immigrants who remained in the city after their arrival in the United States. Some abbreviations occur in the tables of this database. In the occupation field, "w.d." indicates widow and in the address field "h." indicates the address is of a home.

Description: Brooklyn, one of the five boroughs of New York City in the county of Kings, was home to thousands of immigrants seeking a new life in America. This database is a transcription of a city directory originally published in 1890. In addition to providing the resident's name, it provides their address and occupational information. It includes the names of over 883,000 people, mostly heads of households. For the researcher of ancestors from Brooklyn, this can be an extremely valuable collection.
