Note of Dr. C.T. McCready, D.D.

"The family name, which is properly McCREERY, was spelled McCREARY by William of Tullyhubbert, whose wife adopted the form McCREEDY in 1807, or earlier -- although she and her son John Davidson reverted (probably for the sake of legal accuracy) to the form McCREERY,  when affixing their signatures to a deed  dated 18th March, 1816."

"The spelling McCREADY (instead of McCreedy) was assumed by John Davidson about the year 1825 -- and it is used by his posterity."

The McCreery family is of the stock of Dalriadic settlers of Western Scotland.  It descends through and takes its name from Rorie, son of Randal, the son of Somhairle, who died 1164.  It occupied Bute, par of Cantire, and several of the smaller isles.  It returned to the North of Ireland in the XVII century, in the Jacobean Plantation of Ulster.

McCreery Famiy of Brecksville, Ohio by Marcia Snow

This information, given to me (Marcia Snow) in April of 1981 by Vergie McCreery Horrocks, tells what we know of the early ancestors of the McCreery Family.

A letter dated August 15, 1866 from

Christopher McCready
29 Molesworth Street
Dublin, Ireland

To
William McCreery
Brecksville, Ohio

This letter stated they had a common Great Gandfather in David McCreery of Tullyhubbert Comber, County Down, Ireland.

Records of the McCreery family received from Ireland show that the Great, Great, Great Grandfather David McCreery married Mary Barton.  They died in Ireland in 1805 and 1806 respectively.
