Emigrant George McConnell

Return to McConnell Family

The progenitor of the McConnell Family of Southwest Virginia, landed on the shores of what was to become the United States at Philadelphia in 1746. Research shows that he traveled aboard the ship, "Nancy".

Upon landing in Philadelphia, the cost of his passage was paid by one Sanderson. This entitled the said Sanderson to seven years of labor from George McConnell. George later worked at the American House for Casper Schnaebeli. This George lived in Lebanon PA, married twice, died there in 1793 and is buried at the Tabor Reformed Lutheran Church.
Part of the church cemetery was later removed to make way for the street and a parking lot. The stone for George McConnell I's grave is said to be stored inside the church.
The graves of Jonathan McConnell (brother to George McConnell II) and his wife, Catherina are visible beside/behind the church today.
