Margaret Veturia Oakes' father was Leonidas Henry Oakes Sr., b. May 15, 1841 in Kanawah Co., WV. d.Aug. 16, 1894. Married Veturia Margaret Thomas, b. Dec. 9, 1842 in Kanawah Co., WV. Both are buried in Springhill Cemetery, Charleston, WV. L.H. Sr. was in the West Virginia State Legislature of 1887. I have a picture of it, unfortunately it is too large to scan. L. H. Oakes Sr. photo album. Photo's in L. H. photo album are of unknown Oakes ancestor's. L. H. Oakes and family. L.H. and two of his sons.

Leonidas Sr.'s father was Ebenezer Oakes, b. March 17, 1797, in Windham Co., Vermont, d. March 8, 1872, in Kanawah Co., WV. Married Drusilla Drown, b. Sept. 9, 1805, in Marietta, Ohio, d. May 10, 1893, in Kanawah Co., WV. Both were buried in the Oakes Cemetery in South Charleston. When interstate 64 was built it took the land the cemetery occupied. They were re-buried, along with several other Oakes ancestors, in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, South Charleston, WV. Unfortunately all of these Oakes ancestors do not have headstones.

Ebenezer's father was Thomas Oakes, b. July 6, 1768, in Winchendon, Mass. Married Phoebe, last name unknown at this time, b. 1775 in Windham Co., Vermont.

Thomas Oakes father was Seth Oakes, b. April 4, 1773 in Westboro,  Mass. d. April 10, 1810 in Townshend, Mass. Married Elizabeth Shevally, b. 1735.

Seth Oakes father was Nathaniel Oakes, b. June 7, 1704 in Marlborough, Mass. d. June 5, 1783 in Bolton, Mass. Married Tabitha Rice, b. March 6, 1705 or 1706 in Marlborough, Mass. d. 1737, Marlborough, Mass. The Rice line goes back to Robert Ap Rhese, b. 1490 in England.

Nathaniel Oakes father was also a Nathaniel Oakes, b. 1645 in Wales. d. Feb. 12, 1720 or 1721 in Westboro, Mass. Married Mary Holloway, b. Feb. 25, 1681 in Concord, Mass. d. 1733.

Nathaniel Oakes father was John Oak, b. 1619 in Wales. Married Elizabeth Harrison, b. 1623
