Middle Ga. Argus – Week of January 5, 1892
The Ordinary has been asked repeatedly how
many and what widows in this county would receive the pension allowed them
under the statue providing for the same.
In order to answer this question correctly
the writer has procured a list of those whose applications for pensions
have been passed upon and allowed.
The following is the list:
.... Amanda E. Capps, .....
The claims for pensions of the above soldier
widows have all been approved and
are all on file in the state department
and will be paid about the first of February next.
It will be seen that there are thirty seven
of these claims which is above average from the counties of the state,
there being about four thousand claims from the whole state.
An examination into this matter will discover
the fact that Butts County will receive from the widow’s pension fund more
money than the county will contribute of that fund.
She appeared on the census in 1900 in Henry
Co., GA.(12) 1900 Henry Co., GA
census shows Manda Capps, Mother-in-Law of Samuel J. & Martha E. King,
White, Female, Birth: Aug 1829 (or 1827), age 72, widowed. There is nothing
listed under number of children, but under number still living it says
1. She was born in GA, and her parents were born in GA. This time it says
she can read/write and speak English. She died on 6 Oct 1908. She was buried
in Butts Co., GA at County Line Baptist Church Cemetery.(208)

John Capps adopted, or could he have been a sibling of Wesley's? He appeared
on the census in 1860 in Henry Co., GA.(14)
