Myrtle Hiatt Dies – 1979
Word has been received here of the death of Myrtle May Hiatt, 93, of the Eastern Star Home at Boone, on Monday, January 8th. She had lived at the home since July 9, 1970.
She was born November 30, 1885 in Frontier County, Nebraska the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. William Morgan. She had been a telephone operator and milliner and was a former resident of the Earlham and Peru communities. She ws also a member of the Methodist Church and the Earlham Chapter No. 294 Order of Eastern Star where she was Past Matron of the chapter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 10th at 10 a.m. at the Eastern Star Chapel with Rev. Robert Culberston officiating. Burial was in the Earlham Cemetery at Earlham. --Winterset Madisonian, Iowa, 31 Jan. 1979

Nathan Dixon Thompson –
Nathan Dixon Thompson son of Johnathan J. and Sarah D. Thompson, was born August 7, 1842 in Orange County, Indiana. He was the second in a family of nine children and the last survivor.
August 12, 1862, at the age of 20, he enlisted in the Union Army in Company D, 66th Regiment Indiana Infantry volunteers and was honorably discharged June 3, 1865.
In the late 60’s he came to Iowa where he met and was later married to Elizabeth Ann Morgan, on April 8, 1873 at Earlham, where they established their home.
He was a birthright member of the Friends church, but in early married life was converted and became a member of the Earlham church never removing his membership. The wife and mother passed away October 18, 1903.
The children, Minta E. Rausenberger, Hulbert and Charles L. Thompson , of Waurika, Oklahoma, and Silas Edwin of Earlham, survived. Two sons, John J. and Sylvanus B. preceded the father in death, the former in 1935 and the latter in 1886.
Mr. Thompson went to Waurika, Oklahoma, in 1908 where he has since made his home having lived at times with each of his children. For the past several years he has been with his daughter and there he passed away February 23, 1937.
Brief funeral services were held in Waurika, at the Methodist church and the body brought to Earlham for final services conducted by Rev. Reece pastor at the old home church, and burial by the side of his wife. He was laid to rest Saturday the 27th with full military honors by the local American Legion Post. His was an exemplary life and he has left to his children a wonderful heritage in their memories of his Christian faith and conduct through the long years here allotted him.

Silas Edward Thompson –
Silas Edward Thompson, son of Nathan Dixon and Elizabeth Morgan Thompson, was born August 22, 1888 in Earlham, Iowa and departed this life on March 25, 1968 at the age of 79 years, seven months and three days. He passed away at Des Moines General hospital after a short illness.
On April 22, 1916, Ed was joined in marriage with Verda Weaver of near Earlham, and to this union were born four children: Harold, Floyd, Opal and Ruby.
Ed spent nearly all of his life in Earlham vicinity. He was a carpenter by trade and helped construct many Earlham establishments and homes. He engaged in this work all of his life, until his retirement several years ago.
Ed was associated with the Earlham Friends church and was a member of the Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his wife, Verda; three children, Harold and his wife, Betty of Adel; Floyd and his wife, Scharlotte of Adel; Opal and her husband, Howard of West Des Moines: eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister, and an infant daughter, Ruby.

Verdie Weaver Thompson –
Verdie Blanch Weaver, daughter of Floretta Arminta Eppard and John William Weaver was born January 28, 1896 in rural Madison County, Iowa. She passed away August 22, 1972 at Madison County Memorial Hospital at Winterset, Iowa after a short illness.
Verdie was one of ten children. Two sister, Mrs. Margaret Speer and Mrs. Sadie Smith, both of Winterset, Iowa, survive her.
She was united in marriage to Silas Edwin Thompson in 1917. To this union was born four children; Ruby Blanch, Harold Edwin, Opal May, and Floyd Hulbert. Ruby Blanch preceded her in death at the age of ten months. Her husband passed away in 1968.
Surviving are her children; Harold and wife Betty of Lampe, Missouri; Opal (Mrs. Howard Morelock) and husband, Howard of West Des Moines; and Floyd and wife Scharlotte of West Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services were held at Evans Funeral Home at Earlham, Thursday, August 24, 1972 with burial in the Earlham cemetery.
