Clara Viola Capehart –
   Clara Viola Capehart, daughter of George and Sarah Capehart, was born in Audubon County Iowa, on June 7, 1877, and departed this life about three o'clock Wednesday afternoon, at her home in Kansas City, Mo., April 28, 1954 at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 21 days.
  The greater part of her life was spent on the farm located in Guthrie County, Ia., located near the Divide Store. There she taught school and helped care for her invalid mother. Here she united with the Diamond Dell Methodist Church.
  Later Clara and her father moved to Guthrie Center, Iowa, where they resided for 17 years. Both she and her father then transferred their church membership to the First Methodist church of Guthrie Center. At this time she also affiliated with the Rebekah Lodge.
  After the death of her father, Clara moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she made her home for nearly thirty years. At first she did private nursing and later she maintained apartments.
  Survivors include nieces, Mrs. Mabel Gilson, Mrs. Minnie Lupardus, Mrs. Blanche Severin, all of Guthrie Center, Ia., Mrs. Dudley of Redfield, Mrs. Mabel Prochnow of Bloomington, Ill., and Mrs. Retta Fleak of Fort Dodge, Iowa; nephews, Mr. Arval Capehart of Gurthrie Center, Iowa, and Mr. Ray Capehart of Harrison, Ark., and other relatives and friends.
  A short prayer service Saturday afternoon, May first, conducted by Dr. L. H. Athey at the Koch Funeral Home in Guthrie Center, Iowa, preceded the trip by car to the service at Bowman Chapel Church near North Branch.
  Robert Artist and Clyde Newman sang "Beyond the Sunset," and "Does Jesus Care." Mrs. Clyde Newman, accompanist.
  Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Bearers were Glen and Ivan Capehart, Cecil, Estel and Carrol Lupardus and Walter Severin. -- The Guthrian, Guthrie Center, Iowa, Tuesday, May 4, 1954, page eleven.

Jennie B. (Capehart) Marion –
  Death came last week to longtime resident of county. Funeral Bowman Chapel Church at North branch for Mrs. W. M. Marion. Internment Pleasant Hill Cem.  Jennie Bell Capehart, daughter of George and Sarah Capehart was born in Iowa County, Ia. Mar. 1, 1869 and died age of 77 yrs. and 9 d. When she was 6 yrs. of age family moved to Guthrie County, Bear Grove Twp. where she spent childhood. She received her high school yrs. Guthrie County High School at Panora, later teaching several yrs. in rural schools. During her high school yrs. united with Presbyterian Church at Panora. She and Marchious Marion plighted their mutual faith on February 28, 1894 and established their home on a farm near North Branch. After a few yrs. moved to the place that has been home since. Children remaining to miss her are Mrs. Blanche Severin of North Branch and Mrs. Mae Dudley of Readfield and a foster son Ray Capehart of North Branch, who was loving reared in their home. Also 16 gdc.   Marchus Marion of more than 50 yrs. resident North Branch vicinity died home west of North Branch of heart attack. For many yrs. prominent & successful farmer & cattle raiser. Has specialized in Hereford cattle. Has reputation of topping Chicago Market for every shipment for long periods of time. Lila M. Halferty Capehart –
  Lila M. Halferty Capehart, 71 of 4212 E. 29th St. died of a heart attack Sunday at home. Services will be at Altoona Funeral Home, with burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
  Mrs. Capehart, a homemaker, was born in Chariton and moved to Des Moines in 1966 from Nebraska.
  She is survived by her husband, Glenn; a daughter, Betty Sand of Beaver Lake, Neb.; three sons, David Halferty of Des Moines and Bill Halferty and Raymond Burgett, both of St. Charles, Mo.; three sisters, Mildred Long of Russell and Mabel Edwards and Nellie Stackhouse, both of Des Moines, a brother, Jack Cook of Quincy, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lettice Bigley McCullough --
She was a housekeeper. Her husband preceded her in death. Death notice states, "She ate too much after being sick for a few days." -- Dr. J. N. Sims, Dover Hill. Age 63 yrs., 4 mos., 7 days. -- Source: Martin County Death Records, 1882-1918, p. 67

William Turner McCullough --
   William Turner McCullough, the eldest son of George Washington and Nancy Hale McCullough, was born at Golden, Missouri on Nov. 13, 1880 and passed away on June 10, 1969.
   Mr. McCullough was active in Community and Civic Affairs, and served Stone County Missouri as Highway Engineer for 16 years, county surveyor for 47 years and Notary Public approximately 50 years.
   He loved vocal music and conducted singing school in the local communities in his early life.
   On January 4, 1918 he and Miss Allie Meadows were married, and celebrated belatedly their Golden Wedding Anniversary because of Mr. McCulloughs illness.  He is survived by his wife, two daughters; Mrs. John S. (Hazel) Lowery of Falls Church, Virginia, Mrs. Georgia Chism of Rantoul, Illinois, and sons Clay, Glen and Lynn K of Viola, Missouri and J. Ray of St. Louis, Missouri, 17 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren.  He is also survived by 3 sister: Mrs. Roy Rickman of Tracy, California, Mrs. Myrtle Moore of Buhl, Idaho and Mrs. Della Arnold of Keyes, California.
  He was preced in death by brothers, John, David Martin and Allen.
   Funeral services were at 1 P.M. Saturday, June 14, 1969, at the McCullough Church with Rev. Sue Berndt --
  Glenda Sue Berndt, 31, of Diamond, MO, died Thursday, November 13, 1997, of injuries received in a two-vehicle automobile accident on Highway 71 at Tipton Ford.
  Miss Berndt was born March 28, 1966, in Colby, KS, and lived in Joplin the past three years, moving from Peru, IN.  In 1990 she received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Concordia College at Seward, NE.  She was employed at Wal-Mart Store No. 89 in Joplin the past three years and had worked seven years with the company.  She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin and was a second grade Sunday School teacher.  She was a board member of Martin Luther School.
  Survivors include her parents, Paul and Nona Berndt of Gravette; two brothers, Ed Berndt of Gravette and Daniel Berndt of Rocky Comfort, MO; one sister, Betty Berndt of the home; and two nieces.
  Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with pastor Lowell Rossow officiating.  Burial was in Osborne Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Parker Mortuary.  Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. -- The N. W. Arkansas Morning News

Nona E. Berndt

GRAVETTE -- Nona Eileen Berndt, 69, of Gravette died Sept. 30, 2001, at Gravette Medical Center.  She was born July 13, 1932, in Adair, Iowa, to Ray Ellis and Gladys Eileen Morgan Capehart.  She was a former resident of Centerton and Hiwasse and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bella Vista.  She was active in Lutheran Braille Workers Inc.
  Survivors includer her husband, Paul J. Berndt, to whom she was married 41 years; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel Berndt and Dana of Rocky Comfort, Mo., and Edward Berndt of Gravette; one daughter, Betty Berndt of Joplin, Mo; two borthers, David Capehart of Lowell and Martin Capehart of Gentry; two sisters, Joan Palmer of Miltonvale, Kan., and Jeanne Cunningham of Seligman, Mo; two granddaughters.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bella Vista Funeral Home with pastor Jones officiating.  Visitation will be from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
