Lone Elm Cemetery, Benton County, AR
In the late 1870's and early 1800's Quakers moved from Bear Creek MM (monthly meeting), Madison County, IA to Benton County, Arkansas in search of a warmer climate, especially for the ill and infirm. The Lone Elm Quaker Meeting held its first meeting in 1879 and its last meeting in 1903. It was affiliated with Spring River QM (quarterly meeting ) until 1882 and Siloam Springs QM from 8/26/1882 - 1897. The Siloam Springs Meeting began in 1881 and its last date of meeting was 1897. It was set off from the Lone Elm MM and discontinued 1890-1895. Some of its members were from the Bear Creek MM in Iowa. Arkansas Quaker meetings are now part of the Mid-American YM (Yearly Meeting) with headquarters in Wichita, KS.
Lone Elm Cemetery is located at the Junction of Bill Young (CR6) and Airport Road, 3 mile NE of Siloam Springs, AR. It is an old Quaker Cemetery. As is true of many old cemeteries there are numerous depressions without markers, many old field stones or unmarked stones and damaged stones.
