~~ Morgan ~~
Rosehill Cemetery, Menlo, IA
Menlo has had several names.  In 1968 the land now known as Menlo was bought by B. F. Allen from M. Hollingsworth for $15.00.  The town was laid out on July 8, 1869 and while it waited on a name was called "The Switch".  Since it was entirely in Guthrie County while other towns along the Rock Island Railroad were in Adair County, it was called "Guthrie Switch".  By 1876 it still had not received a proper name and the citizens of the town dropped "Switch" and the town was known as "Guthrie".  When the road to Guthrie Center was built people were afraid a similarity in names might cause mistakes and consfusion and the name of Menlo was substituted.
NOTE: We visited Rose Hill Cemetery in May of 2004 and took the photos shown here.  My Aunt Ruby Morgan, the first wife of my Uncle Paul Morgan, is buried here.
