Edgar County, Indiana
Edgar County, Indiana lies in the eastern part of the state.  It is bounded on the north by Vermillion County, on the south by Clark County, on the east by the state of Indiana and on the west by Douglas and Coles Counties.  In 1818 Illinois was admitted to the Union as a state.  It was then composed of fifteen counties, one of which was Crawford, which included what is now Edgar County.  The years 1819 and 1820 saw a large influx of immigrants to the northern portion of Crawford County which led to the formation of Clark County.  The same was true in the spring of 1823 when Clark County was divided and Edgar County came into being.
Harmony Cemetery, Edgar Co., Illinois
Harmony Cemetery, located 3-1/2 miles north of Kansas, in Edgar Co., IL is a very well maintained cemetery.
We visited Harmony Cemetery in June of 2007 and took the photos shown here.  We were very impressed by the care the cemetery has received which included the planting of trees and the very attractive sign surrounded by landscaping of flowers, shrubs, benches, rock and brick walkway.
The date on the pictures should be 2007.

The Harmony Church was organized in 1850.  The congregation with Rev. J. A. Burks as their pastor, erected a neat and substantial house of worship in 1857, 3-1/2 mile north of Kansas, IL.  It soon became one of the most flourishing churches in that part of the county.  In 1892, during the pastorate of Bro. Walden a new building was erected.  Harmony Church celebrated its centennial in 1950 and a remodeling took place in 1958.  The sign indicates last services were probably held in 1985 and the building was razed in 2002.
