He was the son of William Burton and the sister of Sara Elizabeth (Burton) Capehart
He was the sheriff of Hickory County from 1925 - 1928

Hermitage Cemetery is located on the East edge of Hermitage, near the river.
Hermitage is the centrally located county seat of Hickory County, Missouri. It was laid out in 1846-47, and named for Andrew Jackson's home in Tenn. Its estimated population in 2003 was 493. Three miles south of Hermitage is the Pomme de Terre Reservoir and Dam.
