Sugar Grove Cemetery, DeWitt County, IL
Sugar Grove Cemetery is located in DeWitt County, Section 24 of Wapella Township. It is 2 miles east of Highway 51. Turn east on 1400N, left on 1050E and right on 1500N. The cemetery is 1/2 mile on the right. The cemetery is very well cared for and maintained. We visited the cemetery in June of 2007 and took the photos shown on this page. The date on the photos is not correct -- camera error.

Samantha M. Burton -- Nancy Hickle
Samantha b. Nov. 24, 1831
Nancy b. Aug. 4, 1828 -- d. Jan. 8, 1904
This appears to be the same Samantha who is buried in Rock Creek Cemetery. If that is the case, why the two gravemarkers and who is Nancy Hickle? Since we do not know the names of all of Thomas Burton's children, could Nancy have been his daughter? We hope some day to find the answers to these two questions.
Robert Burton
b. Sept. 7, 1832 -- d. Feb. 22, 1895
We don't know how he is related to the other Burton's
Brother Curtis Beeson
b. 1902 -- d. 1966
His stone was next to Robert Burton's so we wondered if there is some connection between them. The age difference would make seem unlikely.
