Burton/Geddes
DeWitt County, Illinois
DeWitt County, located in Central Illinois was first inhabited by Kickapoo and Pottawatomi Indians.  The first white settlers began to occupy the region about 1820.  It is bounded on the north by McLean County, on the north by Macon County, on the south by Piatt County and on the west by Logan County.  DeWitt County was officially organized as a county on March 1, 1839.

DeWitt County, DeWitt Township and Clinton, the county seat, were named after DeWitt Clinton who was not only distinguished lawyer but a statesman and financer, Mayor of New York City, Governor of the State of New York, US Senator and promoter of the Erie canal, as well.  Durign the 1840's Abraham Lincoln had a law office in Clinton and there were many connections between prominent DeWitt County residents and Lincoln -- Source: DeWitt County Illinois GenWeb Project, http://www.rootsweb.com/~ildewitt/

Rock Creek Cemetery, DeWitt County, IL
Rock Cemetery is located northwest of Waynesville and is about 4 miles west of Wapella in DeWitt Co., IL.  The Rock Creek Church was organized following a revival held by Father Hugh Bowles and James Scott in the fall of 1837.  The first church building was erected in 1845 -- Source: Rock Creek Church History, History of DeWitt County, Illinois, Volume I, 1910, page 304
