~~ Clarkson/Plumb/Wigant ~~
Cannon City is the county seat of Freemont County and is located on the Arkansas River at the mouth of the Royal Gorge. Its name is derived from the Spanish word for "canyon". Cannon City first developed as a supply depot during the Pikes Peak gold rush in 1859.
Lake Side Cemetery was established about 1877 and is located on the southern edge of Cannon City at 9th Street and Elm (1008 Elm Avenue).
NOTE: We visited Lake side Cemetery in May of 2006 and took the photos shown here. My Aunt Clarissa (Burton) Wigant, sister of my grandmother Sara Elizabeth (Burton) Capehart, is buried here. Also buried here is Clarissa's son, Albert Wigant, and her daughter and her first husband, James Jacob Plumb & Loura (Wigant) Plumb/Clarkston
