Any name with a plus (+) in front of the entry says I have the names of their offspring. Since I didn't put that plus mark in front of William Robertson's name means he is and untraced line and I need additional information to fill that niche. I hope this information helps. Dale Hastin Smith, Spokane, Wa. I do not know anything other than what is contained here. (Meitoi@aol.com) ***************************** THE THOMAS ROBERTSON FAMILY Submitted by Kent Robertson As a boy in Scotland, Thomas Robertson lived near the ocean, probably in Ayrshire. About 1790, at the age of 12, Thomas went to sea as a stowaway on board a vessel bound for America. One story told in the family for years is that he left Scotland because being the second son, he was not entitled to the family estate under English law. More likely, tales of high adventure inspired Thomas to seek his fortune in the world. Far enough from land not to be put ashore, the lad emerged from hiding. The ship's captain allowed Thomas to work with the crew until they set anchor at Norfolk on the coast of Virginia. Having proven himself a worthy sailor, young Thomas secured a permanent position on the ship. For several years, he worked crossing the Atlantic. Thomas married and, because of his family wished to remain near his home in Virginia. At about this same time, he became master of his own ship. Captain Robertson's voyages from that time were limited to runs between Norfolk and Boston. Oscar F. Robertson, Thomas' son, was born on the Virginia coast about 1805. As a young man, Oscar worked with his father aboard ships traveling up the Eastern seaboard. Before leaving this profession, he became a ship's master. He was known all his life as "Captain" Robertson, even after he left the sea to pursue adventure in the West. Captain Oscar Robertson married Miss Eliza Pemberton Claughton at Norfolk in 1838 and moved to Westmoreland County. Living near the beach, the children were able to harvest oysters. The oldest son, Pemberton Duncan, was given the job of feeding corn meal to the oysters and, as a result, suffered many pinched fingers. As his father before him, Oscar set out for new frontiers. In 1845, the family left Virginia in a chetagua wagon with other pioneer families. The wagon train followed the rugged trails by day and at night made camp by forming a circle for protection. Each man took his turn on guard. The long journey was more than some could bear, the mother of a new born child died and was buried along the way. Eliza took the baby and cared for him until the train reached Missouri. At St. Louis, Oscar heard of rich fertile land and opportunities that waited up the Missouri River. With determination for a good life for his family, Oscar brought his wife and young children up the muddy waters to the mouth of the Grand River. Following the Grand to the unsettled north, the Robertsons bought a farm in southern (newly formed) Livingston County, Missouri. The new homestead was one mile north and one mile west of the small town of Avalon. Along with crops and livestock, the family developed a vineyard. Produce was sent by river to the port town of Brunswick on the Missouri. After a few years, the Robertsons moved a few miles south to a farm near Tugart Mill in Carroll County. It was on this farm that Eliza Robertson died in the winter of 1852, leaving Oscar a widower with six children. After a couple of years, Captain Robertson married Matilda Gentry, the widow of George W. Gentry and mother of three children. To this new union, two sons were born. During the Civil War, the United States Army issued General Order #24 stating that all citizens in Missouri must declare themselves either "loyal" or "disloyal" to the federal government. Being a native of Virginia and a believer in the southern cause, Oscar Robertson is listed among the "disloyal". Captain Robertson died on his farm in Carroll County in late March of 1862. Matilda bore their second son in October and named him Sterling Price Robertson after the Confederate general and former Missouri governor, a tribute to the father's strong political conviction. Matilda lived more than thirty years as Oscar's widow, at times making her home with children in Carroll County. (The above information has been gathered from public records as well as from stories passed down through the Robertson family, especially accounts by Lucy Robertson Hatcher. KR)

Contributed by Kent Robertson, 8657 Glenwood, Overland Park, Ks 66212 (Branch 11, vol. 3 RR) P.D. ROBERTSON P.D. Robertson, ex-postmaster of Tina, is a popular druggist in that place. He is of Scotch-Irish extraction and was born in Westmoreland County, Va., June 15, 1839. His paternal grandfather was Thomas Robertson, who settled in Virginia in the last century. He is the son of Oscar F. and Eliza P (Claughton) Robertson, both natives of the Old Dominion. The father removed to Livingston County Mo. in 1845. The subject of this sketch was but six years of age when he removed from his birth place to the West, where he attended the common schools and assisted his father in the work of the farm. He is one of six children, and, as he was the eldest son, and extra share of labor devolved (sic) upon his young shoulders. After leaving school, he successfully taught in the schools of this county for some fourteen years. In 1873, Mr. Robertson engaged in the drug business at Bedford, Missouri, which enterprise he carried on for a number of years. In 1884, he removed to Tina, which has since been his home. He continues in the drug business, and is one of the active merchants of the town. In 1886, Mr. Robertson was appointed Postmaster of Tina, which position he held for three years to the satisfaction of his fellow townsmen. As might be inferred from his devoting so many years to educational affairs, he is much interested in our invaluable school system, and is now Clerk of the Board of Directors of Public Schools. Politically, he is affiliated with the Democratic Party. He is a member, and has been Financier of the past five years, of the Tina Lodge No. 361 A.O.U.W. In 1865, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Robertson and Miss Mary Collett, of Carroll County. To them was born a son, Henry, who is well known citizen of Tina. Mrs. Robertson was called from this life in 1878 and in the following year Mr. Robertson wedded his present wife, Miss Mary J. Richerson, who was born in Kentucky. Their three children are all daughters, who are called respectively: Anna, Blanche and Effie. Our subject and his estimable wife hold membership with the Baptist Church, in which they are valued workers. In 1893, when the village of Tina was incorporated, he was appointed one of the Trustees and elected Chairman of the Board.

And I am still searching for my J.B. (possibly John Benjamin) Robertson married to Nellie Hankins in MO. whose daughter is my Great Grandma Lucreasy Pearlee "Paralee" Robertson Harrold Hinch b. 1866 in MO. At this time I have Lineages, Inc. searching Census in MO trying to help me find them. Hope I have some luck there. Anyone have any other suggestionson how I can find the above Robertsons who were living in MO in 1866? I do not know which county. And am running out of places to search. The other children in family besides Paralee are: Daniel, Joe and Susie Robertson. Sandie Williams Prater - Oklahoma
