PART TWO THE IRISH HALF
American Ancestors of MARGARET CULKIN (BANNING, SALSICH) 1891- 1982
Part of
this is taken from an unfinished manuscript written by my mother (hereafter
called MCB) titled "Can you Count Stars?" Although very detailed,
this account is full of errors, some probably because she did not know the
facts, but most, I believe, because she was essentially a writer of fiction.
When my brother and I went for a walk or drive with her, she would tell us
wonderful stories about the people in the houses we passed; the same in
restaurants about people at neighboring tables. It made for a very
exciting upbringing, but later, if I met the people, I would always wonder
if the stories were true or not. Now while I try to reconstruct the
family history, I still wonder how much of my memory is colored by the stories
I leaned from my mother, and have to be very careful to get outside information.
I hope this is a true account
And because I grew up with many of these ancestors, this part is written with a more personal slant than part one.
