Urshula's Parentage
![]() |
Victoria
Lewkowicz Maziuk was born in the village of Zaboloch,
Poland around 1870 (my guess). This was a day's horse
wagon ride from Salace. Her father was the village school
master, church elder and had the largest house and barn
in the village. Victoria left the village when she
married Kasmierz Maziuk. She was his second wife. He had
other children, Carolina, Hanja and possibly more.
Leon and Victoria, had two daughters,Rosa and Urshula.* Urshula and Rosa
eventually emigrated to the USA. Her step-daughters had
also emigrated to Stamford, Conn. *There is some differences in this story. Fred says his mother was an only child, but Rose is sure Rosa was Urshula's full sister. |
| Victoria remained in
Poland the rest of her life. Refusing to join her
daughter in America, she choose to remain with her
friends in her home land. She thought she might be a
burden in America. She lived through World War I and most
of World War II. Poland was ravished by both allies and
enemy. When did Victoria die? Sophie polled her brothers and sisters. These are the results: Rose said she thinks it was the late 30s before the war. Paul says-No, no- much later, probably in mid 50s. Fran says-No, no - she died during the war. Sophie says - complete blank (but she always told me it was at the end of the war). There is agreement that she died of malnutrition. To see Fred's memories of Victoria's death, click on this line. |
Kasmierz Maziuk was Urshula's father. We know he died before 1927, because he was not there for Urshula's visit to Poland that year. Little else is known and there are no pictures.
