(3 males >16, 2 females >16).9 He married Mary Woolf, daughter of Henry Woolf Jr. and Elizabeth Fielding Mitchell, in 1790 at Virginia.6,5 "John and William Mayfield came to KY from Virginia and helped survey some land under Samuel McKee, by order of General Assembly of 1798, for Madison Academy. They were each given 250 acres of land on the head waters of Pitman Creek, Lincoln Parish, Later Pulaski County. They settled on the land with their families in 1798. William later sold out and with his family went to Giles County, TN with John's father-in-law, Mr. Wolf/Wolfe/Woolf. William's wife was Elizabeth and he had a son William Campbell. Campbell came back to KY in 1851 and bought the nine slaves from John's estate. I am unable to find the old record or any later knowledge of William's family. There is one old letter from one of these old slaves to her brother with the old papers. She states that all the Negroes are close together and are all well satisfied." From notes written by Mrs. L.N. Taylor (Grandaunt Ella Mayfield Taylor): clm. Taylor to Lindsey W. Mayfield, "John was killed by a tree jumping back on him in 1813, while working the War Road. His oldest son Reuben was then in the War of 1812, fighting Indians in the Illinois Territory. Some years after, Mary, his widow married his cousin Isaac Mayfield. They didn't get along well, and in 1831, I find a record at Somerset where he deeds back to John's heirs his interest in the slaves. Who he was, I have not been able to find out."

"The following are the names of John and Mary Mayfield's slaves sold after their deaths:
Phillis, Moses, Caroline, Charlotte, Maria, Rebecca, Margaret, Sarah, Catherine. (Wills and estates pages 1116, 1120 Court House Somerset)

Campbell Mayfield, a nephew of TN, bought them and took them to his home."

     James Mayfield James was in the American Revolution. He went with Gen. George Rogers Clark on the Illinois Expedition in 1781. He obtained by virtue of donation rights as being head of family in Illinois Country in the year of 1788. He recorded his deed in Overton County, TN in 1818. He was born in 1748 at Amherst County, Virginia.1,2 He was the son of John W. Mayfield Sr. and Mary Delia Bracken.1,2 James Mayfield died in 1825.

     Abraham Lewis Mayfield Abraham Lewis Mayfield was killed in action while fighting for the Patriots in the Virginia line during the American Revolution. Info found in Virginia State Archives. He fought with Col. Crockett and Capt. Cherry. He served a a private, and then promoted to a captain and had a company under his command when he was killed in the line of duty. Info Taken from a deposition given in Overton County, TN 21 November 1811 before Justice of the Peace William Chilton. Glenn W. Mayfield. He was born in 1749 at Amherst County, Virginia.3,4 He was the son of John W. Mayfield Sr. and Mary Delia Bracken.3,4 Abraham Lewis Mayfield died between 1782 and 1783.

     Isham Mayfield Isham served in the American Revolution in the Virginia Reg. under Col. Crockett and Capt. Cherry. Isham served as a soldier in the Virginia line two years and six months and was honorably discharged. His papers are on file in the Virginia State Archives. Glenn W. Mayfield. He was born in 1752 at Amherst County, Virginia.1,2 He was the son of John W. Mayfield Sr. and Mary Delia Bracken.1,2 Isham Mayfield married Mary Soward on 23 May 1783 at Rutherford County, NC/KY.3 Isham Mayfield died in 1818.
