Note:
Log Cabin Democrat:
G. S. ("Spence") Bell, one of our oldest and best citizens, died at his home three miles north of Mt. Vernon Monday and was buried in the Mt. Vernon cemetery Tuesday at 3 p.m. Rev. George Dalton of Enola conducted the funeral services with a fine talk. He and Mr. Bell were life-long friends. After the regular funeral services, the Masons took charge of the remains of Mr. Bell and buried him with Masonic honors. George W. Cummings of Conway, assisted by Sam West of Romance, directed this service. Quite a number of Masons were present. Mr. Bell would have been 91 years old on July 29, and had lived where he died many years. He leaves nine living children, 46 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren, in all 104 living descendants. Mr. Bell's children, that we now remember are Mrs. John Keathley of Des Arc, Mrs. C. W. Keathley of near Conway, Mrs. Tom Dupriest of OK, Tom Bell of Rosebud; Jesse, George and Barney Bell and Miss Ann Bell of Mt. Vernon, and also Sam Bell of Conway.
