He was born on 17 August 1856 at Missouri.1,2 He was the son of Dr. Jonas Calvin Potter and Mary Jane Sutton.1,2,3 Joseph Potter appeared on the census of 5 June 1860 in the household of Dr. Jonas Calvin Potter and Mary Jane Sutton at Jay PO, Washington, Harrison County, Missouri.4 Joseph Potter appeared on the census of 22 August 1870 in the household of Dr. Jonas Calvin Potter and Mary Jane Sutton at Spavinaw PO, Round Prairie, Benton County, Arkansas.5,6 Joseph Potter appeared on the census of 1880 at Anderson, Benton County, Arkansas.7,8 He married Hester Downing, daughter of Edmond Downing and Elizabeth Greenket Cherokee, on 25 September 1891 at Goingsnake District, Oklahoma; Cherokee Nation. Joseph Potter lived in 1892 at Oklahoma. He died in 1912 at Colcord, Delaware County, Oklahoma.3 He was buried in 1912 at Row Cemetery, Row, Delaware County, Oklahoma.3 Joseph was the head of the Potter household during the 1880 Census enumeration, Their father, Jonas having died in 1878 and their mother, Mary having died in 1879. The Surname spelling on the CD is almost certainly a transcription error. The family was living next door to their older sister Harriet Linn and her family.
