CAIRNS May 5. - Mrs. Sally Steele, 34, wife of Mr. Bram Steele, Mareeba, was fatally injured in a shooting accident at Lake Lucey, near the Valley of Lagoons Station, 80 miles south of Mount Garnet to-day.
She was accidentally shot by a .22 calibre rifle which was being handled by one of her children.
The Steeles and their two young children were camped at Lake Lucey on a fishing and shooting holiday.
About noon to-day Mrs Steele was walking with the children when one of them complained of a thorn in its foot. She handed the rifle she was carrying to another child and, while it was being handled the rifle exploded and the bullet struck Mrs. Steele in the chest.
Campers in the vicinity came to her aid, and the woman was taken to the Valley of Lagoons Station, where she died about 2 p.m.
The party set off shortly after to take her body to Ingham and a doctor and nurse set out with the Ingham ambulance to meet them.
The funeral of Mrs. Sally Steele, wife of Mr. Bram Steele, of Mareeba, will take place this afternoon from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Cairns. Mrs. Steele was accidentally shot by a .22 calibre rifle at Lake Lucey, near the Valley of Lagoons, 80 miles from Mt. Garnet, on Monday, when she was on a fishing and shooting holiday with her husband and two young children. Mrs. Steele was well known in Cairns, where her parents reside.
Sally married Bram STEELE, son of Robert STEELE and Jane Elizabeth GLENN. (Bram STEELE was born circa 1914 in Queensland 738.)
