I was looking through a book I
have titled "Lewis Ring, Tennessee Patriarch" by Helen Ring Womack and came across a map
with the location of the McCrory's Corner School. According to the map the
school was located toward the end of what is now Green Schoolhouse Road. My
uncle told me at one time that road went all the way to the Duck River. The map
was from a WPA Map dated 1939, showing Maury County Farm Owners. It was copied by Tom H.
Chunn. Tom stated that "farm number two, where the B. Brown Cemetery is located
is where I grew up. McCrory's School was located in the NW corner of the
farm." In the book there is a passage from Century Review of Maury Co. Tenn
1807-1907, "McCrory's School was started before the war (Civil) by JW Ring, Jas.
Wallace and others who purchased Old Macedonia Church, in Marshall Co. and removed
the logs to this point. The present frame was erected some 20 years ago, Mrs. WR
Brown having been among the first teachers in the new house. Annie L Briley
taught in 1905 and JS Craig is teacher for 1906." I hope this helps clear
up this mystery. Becky Odell albeck@cvinternet.net
