CHESLEY COFFEE GRAVES-MAURY COUNTY TENNESSEE-TARRAPIN BRANCH
This grave is located above a Phosphate mine about 100 yards west of Tarrapin Branch Road otherwise known as Screamer Road just as one begins to climb the hill going south or about 1.25 miles from the Ebenezer Church stop your car get out and go west and cross the branch and thru the phosphate mine pits and up the rise in front of you about 100 yards from the road in the bush. As far as I know this is the only grave but my belief is there were more.
COFFEE, Chesley, Born November 19 1755 & Died September 18, 1818 He came from North Carolina via Kentucky. His Father was believed to be Chesley Coffee, Sr. When Photographed the inscription was not there and it was apparent the top face of the stone had fractured away. I could not locate any parts on the ground that contained the lettering. A large stump on our left from a dead tree once violated the stone but has long since died. It is now rotting away and no longer appears to threaten the stone. This is a 1995 low resolution photo by Wayne Austin.
