C. when hostilities against the British started in 1776, and enlisted in Col. Gadsden's Regiment of N.C. Militia.]

McKEE, Nelson, 1818 - 1863. "1st Lieut Co. A. 48 Tenn Inf. C.S.A." (son of Rankin McKee and Lydia Ray; born in Hillsborough, Orange Co., N.C.; moved to Tn. around 1840; mar. to Emily Rountree 29 Dec 1841 in Maury Co., Tn.; had a farm on Beechroft Road area near Spring Hill, Tn.; 10 children; lst. Lieut, 48 Voorhies Tenn. Infantry; P.O.W. in Battle of Fort Donelson, sent to Johnson Island, Sanduskym, Ohio 26 Apr 1862 and Vicksburg 1 Sep 1862 for prisoner exchange; died while home on furlough.)
