I am attaching a photo of the
students that were attending the Leftwich Bridge Community school in 1948.
I have not been able to find much in the way of historical information about this school. I attended this school during my first and second grades. My mother also attended this school during the late Teens and early Twenties. I know nothing of when the building was constructed or for how long it actually served the community as a school.
The school was closed at the end of the 1948-49 school year and we were transferred to the then new Rock Springs School for the 1949-50 school year, no more walking to school, buses were used then. Ownership reverted to the then current owner of the property on which the school was built. The building was set ablaze a few years later by persons unknown.
Unfortunately this great old community, which once sported a store, church, school, and several other businesses, was destroyed by TVA with its false attempts to build the Columbia Dam. Wayne Sharp 1 Oct 2008
