_______________

    1. The beds shall be allocated in the office of the Gentlemen
             [blank space]
             [blank space]
and no one may take possession of a bed on their own authority.
    2. If one or the other wishes to change their bed, the office must
be notified of such.
    3. The large trunks and boxes will be put in the cellar, as well as
potatoes, ship's bread and wine.
    4. While the ship lies in port it is not permitted to go down to
the cellar. It shall be opened on the sea, so that each passenger can
take up what is needed.
    5. The trunks, boxes, sacks and barrels must be marked clearly
above with the bed number of the owner. - Each should lock his things
well, since the Captain is not responsible for them; money and
valuables are best in the hands of the Captain. Weapons must also be
handed over to him.
    6. Each passenger must present his food ration before moving onto
the ship and must have such on board 12 hours before the determined
embarkation of the ship.
    7. Strictest cleanliness must be observed both during the voyage,
in particular between decks, so that no contagious diseases arise.
Each person must ensure that his bed and the area around it is kept
clean and tidy and only when this is the case, may he prepare his meals.
The sweet water may only be used for cooking and drinking and each must
take care not to use the drinking water for washing or cleaning.
    8. Nails, hooks, etc. may not be hammered into the ship.
    9. Smoking of tobacco, making of fires and lighting lights is
strictly forbidden as long as the ship lies in port. When the ship is on
the sea, smoking is permitted on the top, however only from covered pipes.
   10. Lights may only be lit between deck with the permission of the
Captain, however never without a lantern.
   11. Disputes and trade both among the passengers and with the ship's
crew must be avoided. Those who have complaints must immediately report
to the Captain, everyone must subject themselves to his decisions, as
well as all other directions and orders of the same; the helmsman must
also be given unconditional obedience.
   12. It is strictly forbidden to give the ships crew wine or other
beverages; whoever does this nonetheless can expect that his beverages
will be locked up until arrival in America.
   13. The same shall happen to he who gets drunk or causes disorders
on the ship.
   14. Each shall be present aboard the ship 2 hours before the
determined departure,in particular the women and children.
   15. When the ship has left the port, all passengers must present
themselves on deck, the names of these shall be called out from the
list; each gives answer and directly climbs down between decks until
the roll call is ended.
   16. All of these rules which have been made are solely and alone
for the good and the interests of the passengers, for their safety,
comfort and health.
The Captain thus has the right to expect that he will not be forced
to be strict and hopes that due to the cleverness and love of order of
the passengers they will comply to the present Ship's Rules in all
points, particularly Article 12, because upon breach of this the worst
consequences must be feared for all.

shipping firm*: I have translated "Uebernehmer" as shipping firm, although
it is not clear from the context whether this is a firm or an individual.
In German "seaman's language", is the verb "übernehemen" means to take
passengers or a load on board. In any case this entity is responsible for
seeing the voyages onto their ship in Le Havre, whether it is a shipping
firm or a subcontractor of Mr. Zwilchenbart.
