Hanford Sloan served in WWII,along with his brothers, Willie who served in the Army   and Ralph who served in the Navy a story   told to me by   Anthony ,who is Hanford's oldest son, was that after a battle in New Guinea ,where most of a unit had perished ,upon hearing that the unit was the one that his brother Willie served in,he went out into the field turning over bodies looking for his brother ,Willie was one of the few survivors of that battle, All three brothers came home from the war..   One of the things that Hanford though helped to keep him and his brothers alive ,was that they   had grown up in the mountains of West Virginia and had hunted in the hills ,so knew how to get around in the woods..The other reason was his mothers Pittie's many prayers

Hanford was stationed in Pearl Harbor at the time of the invasion.I hope to add more ....
