he came after working ar the Mechanicsburg

He was" a very avid sportsman, hunter
and fisherman and he got along well with
people and thats important in the manger's
position," said Tom Snyder,treasure
for the White Circle."He was just good-natured.
"His biggest thing was he loved to hunt
and fish and run his dogs,"Snyde said."He
was very outgoing and friendly."
Dale Shughart,a bartender at the White Crcle, echoed
Snyder's comments.
"He was a very nice fellow,"Shushart

with than him."

courteous person".
In his 20s and 30s,Sloan also enjoyed baseball, where
he was a successful pitcher with two teams
in the West Shore Twilight League.
'He had a great knuckle ball, not too many
guys throw that anymore but that's what he
threw," said Bill Rickenbach,who for
50 years has played and managed the Mechanicsburg
baseball team in the league.
Rickenbach said Sloan first was pitcher for
the Kingston team and later the Mount Holly
team.
'He was a good guy and won ball games,"Rickenbach
said ,"I don't know if he ever pitched
any perfect games, but I know he was good
enough to win games."
Rickenbach laughted when he recalled a favorite
story Sloan used to like to telling at Rickenbach's
expense.
"He used to tell everyone about the
time he struck me out on three knuckle balls
and he told the story so many times I guess
he did it,I had to agree with him.I don't
remember if he ever did,but even if he didn't
it was still a good story,"he said "He
was just a good guy to know and be around,"Rickenbach
