Moments of Reflection

A young boy catches his first fish
A woman's daughter washes her first dish
Watching your child go to school
Teaching a youth how to use a tool
Learning that your child received that first kiss
Hoping they will find happiness in marital bliss
Hearing that your new granchild will soon arrive
Wondering just how the young parents will survive
Welcoming home the entire clan for a family affair
These moments are precious to which nothing can compare
Record them in your mind and in your heart
Memories are what warms your soul when you are apart

A Love Remembered

A romantic interlude
A change in one's emotional mood
Events followed that would change the expression on you face
Even when you walked there was a new quickness to your pace
Impatient and consuming, no need to explain
There was only happiness and yearning, even oblivious to the rain
Truly all of the time stopped in each moment of bliss
Emotions ran high with every loving kiss
For many this moment endured by keeping the spark alive
Lifetime patnerships developed knowing what it took to survive
Perhaps your affair was short-lived due to distance or dispute
Sometimes these are issues for which there can be no resolute
If and when you reconnect with that special person once again
Reflect on those precious days, if only it could happen who knows when
Life like your emotions is a gift that we must treasure
Never forget how your happiness provided so much pleasure
Your emotions will be stirred even later than today
When your life has been touched in that certain special way

Hallowed Halls

Periodically there are reflections of those days of yore
Memories of going back to school once more
Changing classes and always running late
Oh those are the images to which we can relate
The sporting events where we cheered at every play
Attending Thanksgiving games even on a rainy day
Holding hands with your latest beau
Who cared if the entire school might know
Your favorite teacher who always had a smile
How important it was to always be in style
You always knew who was the football star
How about that first kiss in the back seat of the car
The first prom date when you waited for your date
Always complaining about how you were going to be late
Parents taking pictures that never seemed to end
Knowing that special secret about your best friend
Your favorite memories may not be one you find in books
But the lessons you learned in some of those hidden nooks
Many found their first love just meeting in the hall
How often did you wait for that special one to call
Lessons we learned are still with us today
Do you still remember how much fun it was to play

Express Yourself

Communication is the key that can unlock a closed door
Clearing up a misunderstanding and doing so much more
You have needs and must let others know
If you can not have the conversation then you might as well just go
It need not be argumentative or necessary to yell
Just that it is better to speak than let things fester or dwell
Timing is an issue be careful how you choose
If you try to express yourself while angry it is for sure that you will lose
Do not attack one another or try to pacify or please
Find a quiet place where only the two can feel at ease
Allow the other member the time to respond in kind
Giving each other equal opportunity, it's amazing what you might find
Getting frustrated or raising your voice to make a point never solves a thing
You might be surprised at what good listening skills might eventually bring
Having different opinions is what make us all unique
It is not necessary to be vindictive or give a strong critique
Be honest and never not try to be on the attack
After all do you want understanding and not to be stabbed in the back
Never try to use side issues that only muddy up the works
Try to be positive and never act like jerks
You can be angry but better to say upset
Like instead of saying I am broke, simply say I am in debt
Value the opinion of another and listen when they talk
Perhaps you can exchange ideas while taking a long walk
Do not sugar coat or lose sight of your needs
Words like actions provoke or invoke the greatest of all deeds
Do not lose sight that there is more than just your side
True feelings should be seen and heard do not keep them inside

The Animal Farm

The Animal farm is not a place but a famous Book
If you have not read it; then you might want to take a look
George Orwell was the man who also wrote 1984
That by itself was quite indicative of our future and what might be in store
Languishing on changing values we may not notice the subtle change
How what we thought were basic truths people have tried to rearrange
In our lifetime there have been many wars and events that changed our world
We all have exhibited pride whenever our flag was unfurled
The premises upon which we were raised have changed no longer seem the same
Even those of us who have changed are often too quick to lay the blame
A castle is as strong as the cornerstones on which it must have for support
Today there are too many changes being made; for which there must be retort
We can no longer just sit idly by
It is time to speak your peace, and not let any right die
Our doctrines though still young have weathered many a test
But we must keep our freedoms because they are the best
Do unto others as you would want for them to do
Be honest and virtous but above all remain true Red White and Blue

Never Far

Even though friends may be physically apart
It does not change the depth of care in their heart
Each one may have drifted away
Not expecting that they may reconnect on a different day
In ones' world unexpected events will occur
It might suprise one that a new emotion might stir
Even when the feelings over time may change for another
True friends are sometime closer than a sister or brother
we all can feel when a distancing may approach
It may be one needs space and does not desire a friend to encroach
As each one must live for the present and not for the past
We must always remember that true friendships do last
Not to be judgemental or assume the bond is weak
But aknowledge that it may be only comfort that they seek
While time and events change the paths they may take
Never scorn or belittle the decisions they make
It is unfair to assume that they will always be there
But the depth of your friendship is in how much you care
Space and fresh air may change how one envision what they have had
No matter what may prevail true friendship can never be bad
Neither oceans or miles can change what is in your soul
Sometimes some emotions are what keeps the friendship whole
Always respect that what another might need or desire
Try to reflect on the embers that remain after the fire
