Do you remember a child's first cry
Or when all they ever asked was WHY?
Perhaps your first kiss was quite unexpected
Or maybe it was slightly misdirected
That special night under the full moon
When each touch made your heart swoon
A drive-in where you never watched the show
Finding out about events that resulted in an unexplained glow
Being asked to be one's partner for now and evermore
Failing to recognize another's fatal flaw
Not every marriage ends in divorce
Some just take on a very different course
Grandchildren for whom you give your love asking nothing in return
Teaching them while they are young and eager to learn
Learning love does change over the years
Knowing losses that generate emotional tears
Spending time with friends who accept your unique traits
Discussing their personal feelings and interactions with their mates
Each moment should last forever in that place deep within your heart
These are those feelings that remian even when you are apart
If there are changes in your life beyond you own control
Learn to savor the warm memories that remian deep within your soul
Look at how life has taught you how to love each special day
Leave a lasting impression while you are here or away
There we were walking hand and hand
Emotions moving like the shifting sand
Oblivious to those around
Only thinking of what we had found
Our hearts joined by a special thread
Binding us not asking where this road led
It might be raining or the sun bright
Do we dare ask if this will last through the night
As time passes we reflect on our past
Never trying to go too slow or fast
Sometimes forgetting the words of our mothers
Learning by mistakes or through those of others
Allow your emotions to carry you through each day
Sometimes the heart might lead you astray
A child learns by getting hurt by mistakes
Just remember to enjoy each moment this day makes
Do not look back except to learn
What lies beyond is the treasure you earn
Tomorow is your reward for all you have been through
What happens today depends mostly on you
Too often people look only at the physical being
They lose the value of what they are seeing
Women dress with care and put on their best face
Always trying to be sure everything is in the right place
Men also try to impress with the clothes and rings that they wear
Hoping that the better looking women will think that they care
Attraction is only the initial appeal
But after the visual glance is over; things start to get real
True worth is way beyond skin deep
The inner person is the treasure you reap
Emotions are not as flexible as your attire
Within any one person may lie a raging fire
Caresses are physical; we often respond in kind
But caring and love come from the heart and the mind
As age takes its' toll on the body we see
It does not change the person in me
Do not assume that looks equate to the emotions you seek
The love and caring will remain even if the body is weak
Firm contours and sexy attire is just for display
But later in life they go their separate way
Take the time and patience to value the true person inside
What lies there will last forever and there is nothing to hide
The unknown can be a very scary thing
Never being able to know what change might bring
Be it the devil with which we now understand
Not being comfortable with the way things stand
Things have certainly changed since the affair began
They certainly have not gone according to plan
Is it you or the other person who is not quite the same
Do you feel that it is the other person who is to blame
We all need to look first within to determine fault
Before deciding to call everything to a halt
Partners often disagree about petty issues
But it is the deeper emotions that brings out the tissues
Do not tread lightly or just walk away
Are you afraid of changes and feel you must stay
Each situation is different and you need not go it alone
Help may be as close as the nearest phone
Never make rash decisions as you might pay a hefty price
Life is not something you should leave to the roll of the dice
Listening to yourself might tend to give bias to any decision you make
If at all possible look for sage advice before deciding which road to make
Found an old album the other day
Never rememebered even putting it away
One particular picture invoked memories of days at the shore
It reminded me of summer happiness and so much more
Playing on the beach and running in the sand
Most of the day's activities were rarely ever planned
Another photo showed a rainbow with its' colors all aglow
This was how we experience the beauty of Mother Natures' show
There were some that had the kids at the county fair
Riding on the Ferris wheel, the wind blowing through their hair
County fairs and pony rides were always so much fun
Kids playing games under the brillant noonday sun
Today the activities have changed but then so have we
I still look at how the kids have grown up and still look a lot like me
We instill in our kids the traits we hope that they will keep
Like respect and honor and the rewards they may reap
Do the best you can to keep the photos on their youth, keep them safe and sound
Someday they may look back at them, even if we may not be around
