Poem 39

Marvin D. Banker

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Marvin D. Banker or "Grandpa Marv" was born March 23, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Graduated from Edison High School and worked hard there after. Married Celia P. (Klimek) Murphy who at the time had 5 children from a previous marriage. We had three children together and were married 39 years, 9 months, and 9 days, before cancer claimed her life.Grandpa Marv began his page on poetry to expose a couple of his many poems and to help others get their poetry seen and read. This page was began in March of 1999 sort of as a passing whim at the time. It has developed ever since with the help of all the many new friends I have met since then. That's my pic to the right. I am a bit older but just as good looking as ever.

On A Hill Called Calvary

On a hill called Calvary
Jesus died for you and me
Did He suffer needless pain?
Was His death all in vain?
Place your faith in God on high
Maybe some day you'll meet in the sky
Son of a Carpenter and Mary
Destined to die on Calvary
The pain He suffered that black day
Was for mankind the deciples say
His life He chose to give
To show the world how to live
Men of all creeds shared the guilt
Attempting to make faith in God wilt
High on a hill called Calvary
Jesus died for you and me
God's only Son is not dead
He lives within our hearts instead
Search not for some miracle
Or a sign from this great Oracle
God's great gift to all mankind
The answers to all this lay in your mind
If a great harvest you wish to reap
Faith in God you must keep
This day and age what we need most
Is faith in God, the Son, and the Holy Ghost
Pray to him and you will find
True Happiness and peace of mind
Remember the hill called Calvary
Where Jesus died for you and me

Pretty Young Miss

Pretty girls I like to see
This comes most naturally

Mini skirts and panty hose
Rosy cheeks and sparkling nose

Pant suits they want to use
Nice figures they abuse

Waiting for spring and a chance
To try out the fad called "Hot Pants"

Every man must beware
Walking into strange objects as they stare

Most women in this day and age
Quickly partake of the latest rage

Love trying out the latest fad
No matter how good or bad

Short skirts worn above the knees
The opposite sex easy to please

Maxi coats I have been told
Worn only to keep out the cold

All men young and old
Are glad women are so bold

Should men wear clothes of equal cover?
Over them the law would hover

Do women like staring at men with hairy legs?
With huge tummies like empty beer kegs?

Do men get to old to look?
Prefer reading a good book?

Pretty girls passing by
Still catch my roving eye

Us old men watch and smile
Approving the latest style

Nothing to what I have been told
Men quit watching girls when they get old

Pretty young girls have one plight
Old men with failing eyesight

Not a problem in the human race
Always others to take their place

Wondering if I care?
Do I like to sit and stare?

Only one answer to this,
Thank the Lord for ever Pretty Young Miss
