Unravelling The Fabric of Time...
In my search for buried treasures, I have discovered
that I am the great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter of Hannah
Boone, the sister of Daniel Boone. I wonder why I did not know this
as a child. I felt so inadequate when my friends, Patty and Barbara,
bragged about being related to Stephen Foster, a famous songwriter
in the 19th century. I remember singing many of his songs as a child,
including, “Oh! Susanna” and “Swanee River”
among others. Alas, no bragging for me!
I have recently learned that I had a great-great-grandfather
from the Isle of Magee in Ireland, Patrick Magee. It was this bit
of information that got me started on my journey into genealogy
since I am currently living in Ireland. I also have a great-grandfather
from Denmark, Jens Hansen, and a great-grandmother from Germany,
Agusta Voss and another from Denmark, Mary Franklie, wife of Jens
Hanson.
Pennington
Research Association is a fantastic resource. I found so much invaluable information
regarding my grandfather’s ancestors on his mother’s
side on their site. This is also where I learned of my connection to the Boone
family, but I also discovered they have my grandfather's date of birth listed
incorrectly and so is my grandmother May’s maiden name. On
the other hand, I seem to be the only descendant of George Hanson
who is actually doing family research! It is a small family, after
all. He only had 3 sons, who then had only 5 daughters total. Just
to set the record straight, and because I must begin somewhere,
his birthday was in March and not in October and he married May
Norton and not May (Mae) Church!
I'm not sure where it will take me, but I shall continue
my path through the lost and forgotten memories of my heritage…
