His obituary, in the Times-Picayune, dated 17 Nov 1924.
Business, Civic Leader Expires
Adam Junker Was Prominent Factor in Growth of Carrollton
Adam Junker, lifelong resident of Carrollton, and a factor in the development of that section, died yesterday, and will be buried this forenoon with Druid ritual, the Rev. Helmer E. J. Neumann officiating.
Learning the shoemaking trade after he finished a grammar-school course, Mr. Junker, who was 55 years old, worked his way up to the proprietorship of one of the largest stores on Oak Street. It was there that he was stricken a year and a half ago with what was diagnossed as a heart attack. He recovered partially, and when the ailment became complicated with other troubles the end followed.
His wife, who was Miss Margaret Deuchert, survives him with seven children, five sons and two daughters. The sons are Charles, Ronald, John, Lawrence and Adam, Jr., and the daughters are Ruth and Elizabeth.
The deceased was prominent in business, social, fraternal, political and religious life, and crowded much service into his career. In addition to developing his own business, he was the organizer and president of the Carrollton Bank, before its merger with the Whitney-Central, of which is became a branch.
He also aided the erection of the Olympic hall at Carollton avenue and Oak street. For two terms he was president of St. Matthew's Evangelical church, and was superintendent of the Sunday schools of that and St. John's Evangelical church for a number of years. He also took interest in Druid affairs.
Because of his public zeal and the confidence he enjoyed, Mr. Junker figured extensively in Democratic politics. He was elected councilman from the Seventeenth Ward during one Behrman administration, and also was at different times a member of the School and Fire boards. For eight years he was one of the inspectors of the Orleans Levee board.
The keynote of his service was the development of the Carrollton district, and he was largely responsible for the paving of Carrollton avenue, the erection of the magnificent Walter C. Flower school, the building of a fire engine house on Oak street, and the section of Palmer park for the naming of which he was the sponsor.

She was nine years older than her husband, and had been working at her father's store in Carrollton, now part of New Orleans, for several years after her schooling was completed. She never learned to drive. She regularly played the piano, accompanying her husband as he sang on numerous occasions.
