Descendants of John Johns Generation No. 1 1. John7 Johns (<Unknown>6, <Unknown>5,
William4, Richard3, Richard2, William1)
was born Bef. 1760 in Of King & Queen Co., VA, and died Bef. Jan 1805 in
Columbia Co., GA. He married Nancy <Unknown>. Notes for John Johns: John Johns of Columbia Co., GA - probated Jan 1805 John Johns of the State of Virginia in King and Queen Co. heirs: wife Nancy sons: William, John exrs: William Jones (State of Georgia) William Bates (State of Virginia) Another John Johns died in Columbia Co., GA abt 1790-1793, the father of Col.
Robert Johns who was born Mecklenburg Co., VA and who lived in SC before dying
in Chambers Co., AL in 1763. Chambers Co., AL was also the home of the
descendants of this John, who with his brother William won land in the Indian
Lotteries in Walton Co., GA in 1806. This John Johns could easily be the uncle of the other one, and could be born
10-15 years earlier than shown here, but this is speculation. A couple of other clues to potential ancestors / cousins: The Johns family of
Rutherford Co., TN includes a Clement Read Johns who at one time resided near
Chambers Co., Alabama and later in DeKalb, Texas, both places where descendants
of John Calvin Johns resided. Also, Farriss descendants of the Buckingham Co.,
VA Johns family are known to have been buried in Chambers Co., AL. At least one of the Columbia Co., GA Johns families was likely related to the
branch that later resided in Wilkes Co., GA, which cannot be excluded as
ancestors to John Calvin Johns. Were there two sets of brothers, William and
John Johns, who went separately to Wilkes Co., GA and to Walton Co., GA? 4 generations Children of John Johns and Nancy <Unknown> are: + 2 i. John8 Johns, born Abt. 1780. 3 ii. William Johns. Notes for William Johns: William of Madison Co. won land in Early Co. and Appling Co.
and is presumed to be the brother of John since (a) John had two
children mentioned in his will, John and William, and (b) two
men "won land together and went from county-to-county together"
and were named John and William Johns. Generation No. 2 2. John8 Johns (John7, <Unknown>6,
<Unknown>5, William4, Richard3, Richard2,
William1) was born Abt. 1780. He married <Unknown>. Notes for John Johns: Note: The following circumstantial evidence is used to link John Johns and
his children: That only one John Johns is known to have resided in Madison Co.,
GA, and he MAY be the brother of William Johns, as indicated below, and that
John Calvin Johns was born in Madison Co., GA. Madison is in northeast Georgia,
just west of Elbert Co. and east of the town of Athens, about 100 miles
east-northeast of Atlanta. Note: Another John Johns, the brother of Robert Johns, married Frances
Loflin. He was likely about the same age and COULD have been the father of
James, William, Easter and Jane of Walton Co., GA. They MAY have the same
parents as John Calvin Johns, b 1818 Madison Co., GA, our ancestor. The obituary of Robert Johns indicating he was from Columbia Co., GA and the
proximity of the children of Robert and John, presumed to be cousins (but not
necessarily first cousins). Each may have descended from a different John Johns
of Columbia Co., GA. There were two John Johns of Columbia who died within a
dozen years of each other, who MAY or MAY NOT have been of the same generation,
and only one of those had a son William Johns (and he was the one who did not
have a son, Robert Johns). The following research info provided by: Deborah Beuerman - RABEUERMAN@prodigy.net March, 2000 John Johns on the list of jurors in Madison Co., GA in 1812. William Johns also listed. (Madison Co. formed in Dec 1811) John Johns paid taxes in Madison Co. in 1817. John Johns and William Johns of Madison Co. were fortunate drawers in the
1820 Georgia Land Lottery. John Johns drew land in Walton Co., GA which was granted in 1823. (Walton
Co., formed in 1818, is almost on a line between Atlanta and Madison County,
30-40 miles east of Atlanta and two counties west of Madison Co.) William Johns drew land in Early and Appling Co. (Claim not yet found.)
(Early and Appling counties are pretty far south in the state - Early in the
southwest and Appling in the south-central). John Johns listed in 1820 Madison Co. Georgia Census 101210-2201 >From the book, "Wayfarers in Walton, A History of Walton Co. Georgia
1818-1967" "...by 1830... John Johns...had migrated from Madison Co" John Johns listed in 1830 Walton Co. census 01101001-110201 Marriage records of Walton Co. GA James Johns--Rebecca Herndon 2-9-1826 William Johns--Mary Hightower 10-2-1831 Easter Johns--John Wade 6-16-1833 [Note: Easter was the name of a
daughter-in-law of Jacob Johns and Patience, and she was born c 1770 Charleston,
SC. Jacob died in Wayne Co., GA in 1817. Wayne is in southeast Georgia, just
east of Appling Co.] Jane Johns--John Herring 12-6-1836 These are all assumed to be children of John Johns as he is the only Johns
listed and the ages fit with the census records. Later census records of Easter, James and William indicate all were born in
Georgia and suggest birth dates from 1802-1819. Therefore John Johns would be in
Georgia before 1802. Since a fortunate drawer was exempt from subsequent
lotteries, John Johns of Walton did not win before 1820. John Johns sold land in Walton Co. GA to Jacob Callahan in the early 1830s.
One of the deeds was witnessed by Willliam Johns, James Johns and Riley Wilson.
John Johns was on the 1826 and 1831 Tax Digest for Walton Co., GA. There is no Johns in the 1840 Walton Co. Georgia census. Possible origins for John Johns: Marriages in Wilkes Co. GA John Johns, son of John--Elizabeth Tuggle 26 Dec 1799 (Probably a John Johns who stayed in Wilkes Co.) Wilkes Co. Georgia entitled to draws in 1806 lottery John Johns 2 William Johns 1 (it is not certain if either man won land in this lottery; it is thought that
the land would have been in Wilkinson Co., GA) Note: Pendleton Dist. SC listed as the birthplace of first four children by
one researcher. There was a John Johns in the 1820 Madison Co., GA census.
Another researcher indicates a John Johns was in the 1820 census of SC, which is
not verified. John Calvin Johns was born in 1818 in Madison Co., GA. Pendleton district was
created in 1798 from Washington District, and was split in 1826 to form Pickens
and Anderson Districts, and the name Pendleton was discarded as a district name.
Notes for <Unknown>: Is this Elizabeth Tuggle? A John Johns of Wilkes Co., GA married her on 26
Dec. 1799. A researcher has a different set of children for that John Johns and
Elizabeth Tuggle, but his father's name is also identified as John Johns. Children of John Johns and <Unknown> are: 4 i. James M.9 Johns, born Bet. 1802 - 1806 in
Pendleton Dist., SC or GA. He married Rebecca Herndon 09 Feb
1826 in Walton Co., GA. + 5 ii. William 'Billy' Johns, born Bet. 1804 - 1811 in
Pendleton Dist.., SC or GA. 6 iii. Elizabeth Johns, born 27 Apr 1808 in Pendleton Dist..,
SC or GA; died 25 Sep 1875 in Lewisville, Lafayette, AR. She
married John Steele 1828 in Of Lancaster, SC; born 12 Jun 1782
in Co. Antrim, Ireland; died 09 May 1860 in Lewisville,
Lafayette, AR. Notes for Elizabeth Johns: Not certain if Elizabeth is a sibling as shown. + 7 iv. Easter Johns, born Bet. 1810 - 1813 in Pendleton
Dist.., SC or GA. 8 v. Jane Johns, born Bet. 1812 - 1815 in Pendleton Dist..,
SC or GA. She married John Herring 06 Dec 1836. + 9 vi. John Calvin Johns, born 18 Jan 1818 in Madison Co.,
GA; died 30 Sep 1875 in Bowie Co., TX. Generation No. 3 5. William 'Billy'9 Johns (John8, John7,
<Unknown>6, <Unknown>5, William4, Richard3,
Richard2, William1) was born Bet. 1804 - 1811 in Pendleton
Dist.., SC or GA. He married Mary Hightower 10 Feb 1831 in Walton Co.,
GA. She was born Aft. 1805. Notes for William 'Billy' Johns: RABEUERMAN@prodigy.net Deborah Beuerman descends from this line. Children of William Johns and Mary Hightower are: 10 i. Polly10 Johns, born 1832 in Walton Co., GA. 11 ii. Sara Jane Johns, born 25 Aug 1833 in Walton Co., GA;
died 10 Apr 1923 in Cleburne Co., AL. She married Henry Blake 10
Nov 1851; born 15 May 1832; died 21 Sep 1891 in Mill House,
Randolph, AL. 12 iii. William Johns, born 1836 in Walton Co., GA. + 13 iv. Thomas F. Johns, born 1838 in Randolph Co., AL. + 14 v. John Jasper Johns, born 1840 in Randolph Co., AL;
died 1943. 15 vi. Elizabeth R. Johns, born 09 Jan 1841 in Randolph Co.,
AL; died 09 Dec 1915. 7. Easter9 Johns (John8, John7,
<Unknown>6, <Unknown>5, William4, Richard3,
Richard2, William1) was born Bet. 1810 - 1813 in Pendleton
Dist.., SC or GA. She married John Wade 16 Jun 1833 in Social Circle,
Walton Co., GA. He was born Abt. 1810. Children of Easter Johns and John Wade are: + 16 i. Hampton George10 Wade. + 17 ii. Matilda Josephine Wade, born 02 Sep 1854 in
Cedartown, Polk, GA; died 06 Feb 1927 in Lindale, Floyd, GA. 9. John Calvin9 Johns (John8, John7,
<Unknown>6, <Unknown>5, William4, Richard3,
Richard2, William1) was born 18 Jan 1818 in Madison Co.,
GA, and died 30 Sep 1875 in Bowie Co., TX. He married Mary Elizabeth Finch
22 Dec 1846 in Chambers Co., AL, daughter of John Finch and Henrietta Taylor.
She was born 15 Sep 1821 in Jasper Co., GA, and died 20 Nov 1895 in Bowie Co.,
TX. Notes for John Calvin Johns: John Calvin Johns was born in GA. He married in Chambers Co. AL Family
history says that the Johns family had a military school for boys pre-Civil War
, probably in AL. It was called Johns Academy. For a wedding present they
recieved a slave to cook for them. When they moved to Arkansas, they were not
allowed to bring her. John apparently liked to move around. They lived in
several counties in AR before moving to TX. Family says that he was once again
preparing to move when he was kicked by a horse and died. He was the first to be
buried in Woodstock Cem., close to New Boston, TX. John is not likely the son of Col. Robert Johns of Chambers Co., AL, whose
daughters were listed in marriage records of the county at the same general
time-frame that John Calvin Johns was married. There were likely two Johns of
about the same age, and probably slightly more distant than first cousins. A combination of migration patterns and other circumstantial evidence lead me
to link John Calvin Johns to a presumed great-grandfather in Buckingham Co., VA. More About John Calvin Johns: Burial: Woodstock Cem., New Boston, Bowie, TX Notes for Mary Elizabeth Finch: The Finch family had a large plantation in Alabama or Georgia. They lived
next door to the Sims family. Sims, TX was named for this family. Mary Elizabeth
is buried in Woodstock Cem., near New Boston, TX. More About Mary Elizabeth Finch: Burial: Woodstock Cem., New Boston, Bowie, TX Children of John Johns and Mary Finch are: 18 i. James C.10 Johns, born 01 Nov 1847 in

died 16 Dec 1930 in Gonzales, TX. Notes for George W. Wade: G. W. Wade Called to His Eternal Home Gonzales lost another of her fine old citizens and prominent
merchants in the passing of G. W. Wade, who has laid aside
earthly activities to enter into that rest that remaineth to the
children of God. The end came at the family residence this
morning, December 16, at 4 o'clock. His passing was not unexpected as he had been failing fast
during the last week or two, his condition having been critical
for days. He had been in ill health for months, but bravely
carried on as long as strength permitted, going to his store
daily. Surviving Mr. Wade are his wife, two sons Mose Wade of this
city, and Jim Wade of Shreveport, La; a daughter, Mrs. A. V.
Magill, and six grand children. Another daughter, Mrs. Darden
Qualls preceded him to the great beyond some years ago. He also
leaves a brother, Albert (sic--Hampton Luther)) Wade of Yoakum
who was at his bedside. Mr. Wade was 72 years, 10 months and 8 days of age. George Washington Wade was born at Cedartown, Ga, but came to
Texas to make his home when still very young. For years he lived at Oak Forest where he was engaged in
farming and the gin business. It was in 1908 that he moved to
Gonzales opening up a hardware store under the firm name of G.
W. Wade and Company, one of the well known business firms of the
city at present, having been in business here for twenty two
years. A representative citizen, he served his city and this
section, his adopted home, giving unselfishly of his best. A man
of sterling character, christian gentleman he was representative
of the highest ideals of christian citizenship, a man of vision
and public spirited. For a number of years he served as a member
of the board of trustees of the Gonzales Independent school
district, rendering able service as president of the board for
some time. Mr. Wade was a prominent Mason and Knight Templar, a member
of the Gonzales Lodge A. F. and A. M., of the Chapter and also
Gonzales Commandry No. 11. A member of the Baptist church for many years, he had been a
member of the First Baptist church of the city ever since he
moved to Gonzales and took a earnest and active interest in the
work of the church as long as his health permitted, having
served as a deacon in the church and also as a teacher in the
Sunday School. Mr. Wade was loved and honored all who knew him, a man who
enjoyed the (???) and esteem of all with whom he came in
contact. He was an affectionate and devoted husband and father, and
was devoted to his grandchildren. In the bereavement that has befallen his loved ones, they
will have the sympathy of scores of friends, heard over the
county. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock when
the services were conducted at the family residence, his pastor,
Rev. R. C. McCough, Rev. J. ..., pastor of the First...and Rev.
