Patsy Taylor PJPTaylor@aol.com of Salado, TX is looking for:
My husbands' grandfather was Jim
O. TAYLOR (born
May 17, 1875 TX), who had a sister Sue Belle
TAYLOR (born Feb-1876
TX)......the children were orphaned(?) at an early age and show up as foster children of Jim O. and Susan
EVANS on the 1880 census of Milam County. On Jim
TAYLOR's death
certificate his parents are listed as
Frank TAYLOR
born TN and Belle LANFORD born TN.
Sue Belle married a Conrad
GRAHAM and named
her first son "Green". **After
Belle was married,
she and her husband
moved away for a short time. When she returned, she was already dying and
asked
the EVANS if they would raise her children.
They felt that they were
too old to raise more children. She
returned to Lexington in Lee County and
found the OAKS and they agreed to take her children and raise
them,
as there were no other relatives available to help her. She died in 1899.
Supposedly they had some GILMORE cousins in the Gatesville
area. Patsy Taylor Salado, TX

Her obituary in the Moscow, Iowa newspaper, August 17, 1897 reads: OBITUARY OF DIDEMMA HEDDLESTON
August 17, 1897 "Emma
HADDLESTEN, beloved wife of John
HIRSCHMAN, was born
Jan. 5th, 1838, at Mattomorse, Washington County, Ohio.
When only 4 years old she was adopted by Ernst
RITTER and came to Iowa in the year
1849. She grew in the home of these good people
to womanhood, and was married on the
24th day of May, 1849 to John
HIRSCHMAN.
This union was blessed with nine children, of which two
have gone to the better home above
and seven are left with a husband and
father to mourn their loss. Frank is living in Minnesota,
George
is farming in Woodbury County, Iowa,
John has bought a farm in Arkansas, Anna, wife
of
Ernst RITTER (Jr.), is
also in Arkansas, and Ella is married to
George HEALY; Clara and
Ori,
the
youngest are staying at home.
Mother HIRSCHMAN, as we loved to call her, has been sick
for three years with that dread
disease, consumption, but she bore her affliction
with Christian spirit and waiting for her Master's
call ever cheerful to
those around her. Her life has been a life of serving, as her greatest delight
was
to serve others.
Rev. I. B. SCHRECKENGAST, an old acquaintance, conducted
the funeral service, and all that
was mortal of her was laid to rest in the
Moscow Cemetery.
She died at 7:20 Wednesday evening, August 11, making
her age 61 years, 7 months, and 6
days. All suffering is over, mother is
at rest and will met us at the other shore, so let us not be
(unreadable)
but wear a joyful heart."
Susie Dent is looking for Didemma Heddleston-Hirschmann.
She's turned out to be a "lady of mystery" for me because
I haven't been able to learn much about
her parents. I'm also going to attach
a photo of Didemma. Didemma was born January 5, 1838,
Grandview
township, New Mattamoras, Washington County, Ohio. She died August 11,
1897,
Moscow, Muscatine County, Iowa. She is interred in the Moscow Cemetery
next to her husband John
HIRSCHMAN
and his first wife Susan WILLIN.
Didemma had a brother, Demoranith, who
later migrated to Ukiah, California and I don't have anything
more on him.
Other family members have Didemma and Demoranith's parents
listed as Unknown Heddleston and
Cynthia Ann
GOOSEMAN I haven't found
anything on them either but I know there are lots of
HEDDLESTONs and GOOSEMANs
in the Washington County area of Ohio.
Ernst Ritter (Sr) and his first wife,
Eleanor (maiden
name unknown) lived in Washington County but
I don't have anymore information
about them. An old family rumor mentions that Ernst (Sr) never formally
adopted
Didemma and her brother.
An interesting fact: Didemma's daughter, Anna married
Ernst Ritter Jr., Didemma's foster brother.
Ernst Ritter Jr.
and Anna
moved to Marked Tree, Arkansas and he became a prosperous land owner and
businessman. The telephone company was owned by him. His family today owns
Ritter Communications
including Internet service for the northeast Arkansas
area.
Margie, I believe you mentioned in a previous email that
there was a Cynthia HEDDLESTON and 3
children listed in the Jolly township.
Also, in the old information I had on the HEDDLESTONs
that was included in my crashed computer,
I think I remember seeing a Cynthia HEDDLESTON
and an HEDDLESTON
man on a death index. They
were in their late
20's and died within a few weeks of each other. I think it might have been
in Jan.-Feb. of
1841-42.
Do you know of an epidemic that might have killed a lot
of people about 1842? They might have had
an influenza epidemic at that
time.
I really don't have much to go on but I'm hopeful that
more information will turn up. Look for any
family resemblances on the photo
of Didemma I'm attaching.
Thanks for your help. Susie Dent
