Ottumwan Found Dead on Tracks Tom Sands Suffers Heart Attack While Walking To Work, Coroner Says.
Tom Sands, 59 of 301 North Caldwell Stree, was found dead this morning along the Milwaukee railroad tracks east of Caldwell street a short time after he had left home for work. John Drake county coroner, said his death has caused by a heart attack.
His wife, Lettie Sands, said that he had complained of not feeling well last Saturday.
He was the son of William and Sarah Sands and was born October 11, 1876. He had lived in Ottumwa for 26 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Roy, Donald and Kenneth, all of Ottumwa; a grand-son, Bobby Clark; a brother, Jacob Sands, Ottumwa; and a sister, Mrs. Oliver Richards of Humeston.

Kenneth Eugene Sands, 63, of Golden Arrow Trailer Court died at 7:55 a.m. Oct 6, 1969. The body has been cremated.

Roy E. Sands, 53, of Keosauqua, formerly of Ottumwa died at Ottumwa Hospital at 8:55 Wednesday.
He had been employed for the past six months at the Van Buren County home near Keosauqua. Prior to that he had worked five years at the state juvenile home at Toledo. He lived in Ottumwa before going to Toledo.
He was born Mar 6, 1904 at Moravia, the son of Edward and Lettie Rae Wonderly Sands.
He and Louise Mae Heifner were married June 9, 1934, at Lancaster, Mo. She survives. Other survivors are a son, Theodore F. Sands at home, his mother of Ottumwa, two sisters, Mrs. Mae Clark of San Bernadino, Calif. And Mrs. Fern Carnes of Ottumwa Route #5 and a brother, Kenneth E. Sands of Ottumwa.
His father died in 1935. He also was preceded in death by a brother Donald, in 1936.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel, in charge of the Rev. Paul Belger of the Church of God. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Paulbearers will be Mose Kegir, Bernie Houk, Emmett Boulger, Carroll Mace and Beryl Kosman. ****************************************************************** OBITUARY OF WILLIAM “DONALD” SANDS Newspaper and Date Unknown — Date of Death 14 Nov 1936
Donald Sands 19, died at his home, 702 Clinton Avenue, Saturday at 9 p.m.
He was the son of Thomas and Lettie Sands and was born in Ottumwa April 27, 1917. He had lived here all his life.
Surviving are his mother and step father, Mr. & Mrs. H. G. Simmons; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Clark and Mrs. Clarence Carnes of Ottumwa, and two brothers, Roy and Kenneth of Ottumwa.
Funeral services were held today at 3:30 p.m. in Johnson’s Funeral Chapel. Conducted by the Rev. A. D. McClure.
Burial was made in Zion Cemetery. |
