Former Local Lady Dies In Columbia

 

   COLUMBIA -- Mrs. Rachel Grimes Bleckley, 66, wife of N. Frank Bleckley, Sr., of Columbia, died Saturday, March 16, at the Baptist Hospital after an illness of six weeks.

   Mrs. Bleckley was born and reared in Branchville, and was the daughter of the late Irving E. and Laura Beagling Grimes, of Branchville, and was a member of the Baptist Church.

   Funeral services were conducted Monday at 4:00 p.m., from the Paschal Funeral Home, by the Rev. Paul Wheeler.  Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.

   Acting pallbearers were her nephews, Thomas E. Grimes, Jr., George W. Grimes, Carl T. Grimes, B. M. Grimes, Jr., Claude Hinson and Glenn Grimes.

   Surviving are her husband, one son, N. Frank Bleckley, Jr., of the U. S. Naval Station, Brambridge, Md.; five daughters, Mrs. Jim Boozer and Mrs. Roland Stallings, of Columbia; Mrs. H. E. Sandifer of Eastburton, Ala., Mrs. John McEachern of Greensboro, N. C., Mrs. C. E. Huddle of Fort Knox, Ky.; one brother, Berry M. Grimes, Sr., of Florence; and 22 grandchildren.

Berry M. Grimes Jr.

 

   FLORENCE -- Berry Metz Grimes Jr., 65, died Monday.

   Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of Mrs. Minnie Bearden Grimes and the late Berry M. Grimes Sr.  He was a retired conductor of the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, a veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 3181 for 43 years.  Mr. Grimes was also a member of Retired Railroad Employees and Southside Baptist Church.

   Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mildred Hanna Grimes; a son, George W. Grimes of Columbia; a daughter, Miss Patricia A. Grimes of Florence; his mother of Florence; a brother, Ervin G. Grimes of Florence; sisters, Mrs. Ed B. (Mary) Bowers of Columbia and Mrs. Martha Jones of Spartanburg; and grandchildren.

   Service will be held at 3 p.m. today in Florence Memorial Gardens.

   Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

   Cain Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Minnie B. Grimes

 

   FLORENCE -- Mrs. Minnie Louise Bearden Grimes, 92, widow of Berry M. Grimes Sr., died Sunday.

   Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late William Glen and Mary Frances Smith Bearden.  She was a member of First Baptist Church.

   Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Edward B. Bowers of Columbia and Mrs. Johnnie M. Jones of Spartanburg; and a son, Irvin G. Grimes of Florence.

   Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cain Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Florence National Cemetery.

   The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Carolina Childrens Home, the American Cancer Society or to the S. C. Arthritis Foundation.

MRS. JIM GRIMES ...

   Branchville, June 29. -- Mrs. Fannie Collins Grimes, 42, wife of Jim Grimes, died at her home here this morning after an illness of several months.  She was a member of the Branchville Baptist Church and the American Legion auxiliary.

   Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Marie, and two sons, Carl Thomas and Delbert; her father, J. S. Collins, and step-mother, and a brother, John Elkins Collins.
