Don Peyton WHITED Sr. [Parents] was born 5 Sep 1923 in Bristol, Sullivan Co., TN. He died 19 Jan 2006 in Charlottesville, Albermarle Co., VA. Don married Patillo FOWLER.

Don Peyton Whited, DDS, died of a heart attack Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at a local nursing home in Charlottesville after a long illness. He was 82.

Dr. Whited was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Bristol, Va., the son of Gladys Grogan and Garland Whited.

He attended the public schools in Gate City, Va. In 1942, he entered Lincoln Memorial University in Cumberland, Va., and transferred in the fall of 1943 to William & Mary College. He enlisted in the Navy Air Corps in 1944 and was trained as a radio/radar technician in a crew that checked all airplanes heading to the South Pacific. He left the Navy in 1946 and entered the Medical College of Virginia Dental School in 1952, where he received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He was awarded the A.D. Williams scholarship for scholastic achievement at graduation. He was president of his class his sophomore year and was a member of Psi Omega professional fraternity and served as vice president his junior year. He was a member of Sigma Zeta scholarship society and Alpha Sigma Chi leadership society in his junior and senior years and was president of Alpha Sigma Chi his senior year. He received an appointment to serve for a year on a rotating internship in all branches of clinical dentistry in the U.S. Public Health Service and was assigned to the U.S. Public Health Hospital at Staten Island, N.Y., where he held a commission as assistant dental surgeon intern.

Dr. Whited moved to Charlottesville in 1956 and practiced general dentistry for four years. He then trained in orthodontics at Columbia University in New York City and returned to Charlottesville in 1963. Dr. Whited served as president of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Dental Society, president of the Shenandoah Valley Dental Component and was a Fellow of the Virginia Dental Association. He was also president of the Virginia Orthodontic Association. He was an active member and an elder in the Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a past member of the Charlottesville Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pati Fowler Whited; two daughters, a son and grandchildren: Marcia Whited and daughter Grace of South Portland, Maine, Shann Whited of Charlottesville and D. Peyton Whited Jr. and wife Pamella and children Austin, Jessie and Jeremy of Christiansburg, Va. His younger brother, Joe Pence Whited, died in 1988 in Charlottesville.

A memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Rugby Road will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev James Baker will officiate. Interment will be private. Memorials : In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Westminster Church, Hospice of the Piedmont, or any charity of choice. Patillo FOWLER "Pati" was born 1 Sep 1925 in Spencer, NC. She died 25 Nov 2008 in Charlottesville, Albermarle Co., VA. Pati married Don Peyton WHITED Sr..

Patillo Fowler Whited, 83, died peacefully on November 25, 2008, at the Martha Jefferson House. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for greater than 50 years and ordained as an Elder in 1975. She was also an active member of Community Child Aid.

The daughter of Leonie Prettyman and Thomas Patillo Fowler, she was born September 1, 1925, in Spencer, NC. A graduate of Spencer High School, she received a bachelor’s degree in 1946 from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. After teaching in high school for a year in China Grove, NC, she worked in Hampton, VA, for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Kingsport, TN, for Tennessee Eastman Co. (now Eastman Chemical), where she met and married Don P. Whited in 1950.

She and her family have lived in Charlottesville, VA since 1956, with the exception of a brief move to New York City while her husband specialized in orthodontics at Columbia University.

Dr. Whited died in 2006. Mrs. Whited had survived her older sisters, Evelyn F. Sadler of Chapel Hill, NC, Eleanor F. Hackett of Spencer, NC, Leonie (Skeet) F. McCall of Salisbury, NC, and Marian F. Witt of Kingsport, TN.

She is survived by two daughters, a son, and grandchildren: Marcia Whited and her daughter, Grace, of South Portland, ME, Shann Whited of Charlottesville, VA and D. Peyton Whited, Jr. and wife Pamella of Pinedale, WY, and their children, Austin Whited of Allentown PA, and Jeremy and Jessie Moitozo of Christiansburg, VA. She is also survived by two nieces, Margaret H. Murphy and her daughter, Mary Margaret, of Atlanta, GA, and Marilyn H. Marbrook and her husband, Djelloul, of Germantown, NY.

A memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church will be held at 11 a.m. on December 2, 2008. The Rev. James Baker will officiate.
Interment will be private.
