Paul PLASTER [Parents] was born 11 Jan 1925 in Virginia. He died 9 Mar 2009. Paul married Thelma.

Paul Plaster, 84, of Salem, Va., passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009. He was a decorated United States Army Veteran and later became a lifelong member of the DAV, VFW, and the Edgewood Lions Club. Paul was a retired barber after nearly 40 years of service to a clientele he loved. He enjoyed fishing, building bluebird boxes, and traveling extensively with his wife.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Daisy Plaster; son, Gregg Plaster; daughter-in-law, Nancy Plaster; and 11 brothers and sisters.

His surviving family includes his wife of 62 years, Thelma Plaster; son, Gerry Plaster; granddaughter, Alexandra Plaster; sister, Hazel Capus; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2009, in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Rick Elmore will officiate.

Kingsport - Newton D. Whited, Jr., 87, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (March 4, 2009) at Preston Place Suites, after a brief illness.

He was born in 1921 to the late Newton and Elizabeth Quillin Whited in Snowflake, VA. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in New Guinea, Philippines and Luzon where he received five bronze service stars, the Good Conduct Metal and the Purple Heart. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Co., Organic Chemicals Division, in 1980 after 40 years of service. He was a former member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Fern Fletcher Whited, in 2001; a brother, James F. Whited; five sisters, LaVerta Barker, Mona Addington, Nina Fleenor, Edith Dougherty, and Lucille Quillen Bishop.

He is survived by his son, Danny M. Whited and wife Linda Hensley Whited; his daughters, Deborah Mykytka and husband John, Brenda Kerney and husband Hershel, all of Kingsport; one grandson, Randy Johnson, of Kingsport; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Mykytka, of Cedar City, Utah, Katherine Mykytka, of Knoxville, Tanya Mykytka Cox, of Decatur, GA, and Brook Mykytka Pyhtila, of Decatur, GA; one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Johnson; sisters-in-law, Betty Starnes and husband James M. Starnes, of Kingsport, and Fay Fletcher, of Brevard, N.C.; he is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Friday (March 6, 2009) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clarence Bear and Rev. Phil Goins officiating. Music will be provided by Tom and Beverly Horton, Phil Hensley and Glen Moore.

A military graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday (March 7, 2009) at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with American Legion Hammond Post 3/265 and the Tn Army National Guard officiating. Pallbearers will be Phil Hensley, Wayne Yates, Wayne Burke, James Barker, Randy Johnson and John Collier. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Good, Leonard Stallard, Lonnie Archer, John P. Trent, Glen Moore and Larry Tester and J.C. Quillen. Those who wish to atttend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 am.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Preston Place Suites and the wonderful caregivers at Amedisys Hospice for the care that was given during his illness.

Callie Fern FLETCHER [Parents] was born 15 Apr 1932 in Scott Co., VA. She died 1 Jun 2001 in Kingsport, Sullivan Co., TN. Callie married Newton D. WHITED.

KINGSPORT - Callie Fern Whited, 69, Idle Hour Road, went to be with her Lord Friday (June 1, 2001) at 3:10 p.m. at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was born in Scott County, Va., but had lived in Kingsport most of her life.
She was a retired cosmetologist, and a member of the Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Bill Fletcher and Goldie Harris Fletcher Thompson; stepfather, Walter Thompson; three sisters, Delores Fletcher, Sybil Templeton and Janet Dockery.

Survivors include her husband, Newton D. Whited Jr., Kingsport; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Mykytka and husband, John, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny M. Whited and wife, Linda Hensley Whited, Kingsport; one stepdaughter and husband, Brenda Kerney and Hershel Kerney, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Randy Johnson, Kingsport, Tanya Mykytka, Decatur, Ga., Brook Mykytka, Palo Alto, Calif., Elizabeth Mykytka and Catherine Mykytka, both of Kingsport; one great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Johnson, Kingsport; one sister, Bettie Starnes, Kingsport; two sisters-in-law, LaVerta Fugate, Roswell, Ga., and Lucille Bishop, Gate City, Va.; two brothers, Harold Fletcher, Orlando, Fla., and Joe Fletcher, Penrose, N.C.; a close friend, Betty Herron, Gate City, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call anytime at the residence, 2241 Idle Hour Road.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Clarence Bear officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
