Alvin Howard ROHRER [Parents] "Al" was born 21 Sep 1927 in West Virginia. He died 17 Dec 2009 in Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA. Al married Fern Frances ELSWICK on 20 Feb 1949.
Al was a deputy sheriff in Buchanan County, VA for many years. He was strictly a Republican and had an avid interest in politics.

POUNDING MILL, Va. — Alvin Howard Rohrer, 82, of Pounding Mill, Va., died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at Heritage Hall Nursing in Tazewell, Va.
He was born in Beckley, W.Va. and was a son of the late Albert Rohrer and Alberta Rohrer.
He was retired from Bailey Lumber Co. where he was a manager in Grundy, Va. and also had worked at the Bluefield, W.Va. office. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and attended the United First Methodist Churches. He was a former president of the Jaycees Club in Beckley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alvin H. Rohrer, II; and a daughter, Ruth Marie Rohrer; and by a grandchild, Jason Lee Rohrer; and by several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Francis Elswick Rohrer; sons, Kenneth Ray Rohrer and wife Debra, Cedar Bluff, Va., Stewart L. Rohrer and wife Becky, Grundy, Va.; daughter, Susan Clevinger and husband Jerry, Grundy, Va.; brother, Albert D. Rohrer and wife Dorothy, Louisville, Ky.; sister, Bertie Dosch and husband George, Ft. Thomas, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; special friends, people at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, Va., Total Home Care and Hospice, and the people who gave good care at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with the Rev. Robert (Bob) Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. Graveside military rites will be presented by the Bluefield, Va. VFW Memorial Post 9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion Post #14. Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel Marie PHIPPS [Parents] was born 10 Nov 1910 in Tazewell Co., VA. She died 7 Jun 2007 in Richlands, Tazewell Co., VA and was buried in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Tazewell Co., VA. Hazel married Samuel Walter BROWN on 15 Sep 1931.
Hazel Marie Brown, 96, of Richlands, died June 7 at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Richlands, he was the daughter of John and Dora Bell Helton Phipps, both former Richlands natives.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Layman’s Chapel Church in Richlands. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Walter Brown; three sisters, Ola Wilson, Mae Phipps, and Myrtle Phipps; and three brothers, McClura Phipps, Lee Phipps, and Robert Phipps.
Survivors: special niece, Betty Wimmer and husband, Don, of Steelesburg; special great-niece, Susan Jessee of Tazewell; and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. June 10 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Thomas Stranger and the Rev. Walter Jessee officiating. Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill.
