William Clyde FLETCHER [Parents] "Clyde" was born 13 Sep 1914 in Deskins, Buchanan Co., VA. He died 2 Dec 2002 in Lebanon, Russell Co., VA. Clyde married Gladys.

  HONAKER -- Mr. William Clyde Fletcher, 88, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in a Lebanon hospital. Born Sept. 13, 1914, in Deskins, Va., he was a son of the late James Brock and Rachel Vandyke Fletcher. He had lived in the Honaker area for the past 33 years, moving there from Buchanan County. He was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Pittston Coal Co. and was a member of the UMWA Local 1256. He was a member of Concord New Garden Primitive Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Breeding, Ollie Wilkey and Florence Fletcher; and three brothers, Henry Fletcher, Glen Fletcher and Quay Fletcher. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
    Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gladys Fletcher of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Ersel and Ella Deane Fletcher of Glade Spring and Charles Guy and Jeannie Fletcher of Honaker; four grandchildren, Tammy Montgomery of Glade Spring, Shannon Fletcher of Honaker, Maressa Monk of Bristol Virginia and Renita Hicks of Athens, Tenn.; and four great-grandchildren, Lindsey Massie, Madison Massie, Lance Monk and Michaela Monk also survive.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Elder Danny Smith, Elder Otis Fields, Elder Ked Stacy, Elder Joe Edwards and Elder George Ben Combs officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.
    Pallbearers will be Shannon Fletcher, Bernard Fletcher, Earl Fletcher, Ronnie Fletcher, Joe Kendrick, Tommy Deel, Doug Compton, Greg Fletcher and Aaron Fletcher.
    Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the Washington District Primitive Baptist Association.

John Quay FLETCHER [Parents] was born 16 Jul 1911 in Deskins, Buchanan Co., VA. He died 29 Dec 2001 in Tazewell Co, VA and was buried in Greenhills Memory Garden, Tazewell Co., VA. John married Virginia Leslie BREEDING.

Quay was killed in an automobile accident while on his way to his grandson's (Greg Fletcher) wedding. His daughter-in-law, Judith, was also killed in the accident. Judith's husband, James, and Quay's wife, Virginia, were killed in an accident earlier that same year (2001).

VANSANT, Va.-Mr. John Quay Fletcher, 90, of the Hurricane Creek section of Route 1, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born July 16, 1911, in Deskins, Va., he was a son of the late Brock and Rachel Vandyke Fletcher. He was a lifelong resident of the Buchanan County area and a member of the New Garden Primitive Baptist Church. He was retired from Island Creek Coal Company and a member of the UMWA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Fletcher; two sons, James "Ferrell" Fletcher and Johnie Fletcher; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Nadine Fletcher Smith of Lynchburg, Va., and Gearline Fletcher Hesse of Chesapeake, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Betty Fletcher of Davenport; one sister, Florence Fletcher of Honaker; one brother, Clyde Fletcher of Honaker; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral serivces will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Elder Garnell Gilbert, Elder George Ben Combs, Elder Otis Fields and Brother Les Ritchie. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Greg Fletcher, Ronnie Fletcher, Guy Fletcher, Ersel Fletcher, Lance Smith, Bernard Fletcher, Harold Compton and Aaron Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Fletcher, Larry Harman, Clifford Presley and Mark Cook.

Virginia Leslie BREEDING was born 20 Feb 1924. She died 13 May 2001 in Buchanan Co., VA and was buried in Greenhills Memory Garden, Tazewell Co., VA. Virginia married John Quay FLETCHER.

Virginia and her son, James, were killed in an automobile accident on Mother's Day, 2001.

Johnie was a coal miner, having worked at VP Number 5 mine for Island Creek Coal Company and Consol. He loved bluegrass music and had an interest in broadcast radio, which he passed on to his son. He died of cancer in 2001.
