Thomas Rogers
Thomas Rogers was born between
1824 and 1830 in Ontario Canada. (Although his death certificate states
he was born on 25 Jan 1831. See source note 10 below.)
He was the
son of John Rogers and Nancy Decker.1
Thomas Rogers is the half-brother of Catherine
Sloat.
Thomas married Eleanor "Ellen" Jane Swackhammer before 1851
in Ontario.2
She was born around 1832, and died Bet. 1880 - 1894, likely
in Michigan.3
She appears to be the daughter of William Swackhammer and Sarah Walker.
The
Swackhammers lived in Hamilton, Wentworth Co. Ontario.4
I have not found Thomas and
Ellen in the 1851 Canada census. However, the
obituary of their son William stated that he was born in Hamilton,
Ontario.5
They lived in Grimsby township, Lincoln Co. Ontario in the 1861 Ontario
census. (See source note 5a below.)
Thomas and Ellen moved to Port Austin, Huron Co. Michigan between
1861
and 1865.6
Ellen's brother Isaac
Swackhammer and his wife and children moved to Port
Austin, Huron Co. Michigan between 1869 and 1873.7
After Ellen's death, sometime
between 1880 and 1894, Thomas married Lucretia
Adamson, daughter of William Adamson and Louisa (last name unknown), on
12 July
1894, in Bad Axe, Huron Co. Michigan.8
Lucretia was born in 1867 in
Michigan and died 12 January 1916 in Port Austin, Huron Co. Michigan.9
