OBITUARY--JOSEPH H. BRASTED
Canisteo, March 24--Funeral services for Joseph H. Brasted, resident of Canisteo
for the past 58 years, will be held at the home in Maple Street Thursday at 2:30
p.m. The Rev. M. Eugene Van-Nostrand will officiate and burial will be in
Howard.
Mr. Brasted was 81 years old and the oldest living member of the Canisteo Fire
Department. He was born in Howard, the son of Henry and Sara Prentice Brasted.
He was a member of the Canisteo Baptist Church and a retired drayman.
Surviving arehis widow of Canisteo; one daughter, Mrs. Scott Cross of Ithaca;
two sons, Dr. George Brasted and Ellsworth Brasted of Canisteo; one brother

CANISTEO--Mrs Cynthia B. Cross, widow of Scott W. Cross of 16 Greemwood St.
Canisteo, died Thursday at James iMercy Hospital in Hornell where she had been a
patient for one week. She was 81 years old.
A native df the Village of Canisteo, she was a graduate of Canisteo Academy and
Training Class. She lived the early part of her life in Canisteo where she was a
teacher and she also taught in Trumansburg She then moved to Ithaca where she
Lived for 55 years and was employed as a secretary for the Hickey Music Store.
She moved back to Canisteo three years ago. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Ithaca.
Survivors include one brother Ellsworth Brasted of Canisteo. Funeral and
Committal services will be held at the Wagnel Funeral Home in Ithaca at 11:30
p.m. Saturday with burial in the al Lakeview Cemetery in Ithaca.

OBITUARY--SCOTT WINFIELD CROSS
CANISTEO--Scott Winfield Cross of 46 Greenwood St., Canisteo, died at his home
this morning after a long illness. He was 83 years old.
Cross was employed for 30 years by the J.B. Lange Company of Ithaca and was
service manager when he left the concern in 1934. He later was employed as
laboratory technician at Cornell Univeristy until his retirement in 1954. He and
his wife were married for 56 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cynthia Cross.
The body is at the Smith Funeral Home in Canisteo. Thursday morning it will be
taken to the Wagner Funeral Home in Ithaca where funeral services will be held
at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Christian Jensen, pastor of the First Baptist Church in
Ithaca officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery in Ithaca. (Hornell

c. Ellsworth BRASTED was born July 25, 1904 and died May 5, 1998 at the age of 93 years. On May 18, 1929 he married Anna C. ZELTWANGER whose dates are unknown.
OBITUARY--ELLSWORTH G. BRASTED
CANISTEO--Ellsworth G. Brasted, 93, formerly of 46 Greenwood St. died Tuesday
(May 5, 1998) at the Masonic Home in Utica where he has resided for over two
years.
He was born July 25, 1904 in Canisteo and was a son of Joseph and Allie Carter
Brasted. On May 18, 1929 in Canisteo he married Anna C. Zeltwanger who died on
May 19, 1978. He was also predeceased by his brother George Brasted and his
sister Cynthia Cross.
Ellsworth lived his entire life in Canisteo before going to the Masonic Home in
1995.
He was a graduate of the Canisteo Academy Class of 1925. He enjoyed sports
particularly ice skating and swimming and was active in both as late as the
early 1980's.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canisteo; was a 70 year
member and past master of Morning Star Lodge #65, F, & A.M. aand was a Grand
Representative from the Grand Lodge of the State of New York to the Grand Lodge
of Nicaragua. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Natalie (Dwight)
Reynolds of Canisteo and his son and daughter-in-law, George (Donna) Brasted of
Oneonta; his five grandchildren, Scott, Craig and Robert Reynolds, Theresa Gunn
and Eric Brasted and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the H.P.
Smith and Son Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo where a Masonic service will be held
at 8:45 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11
a.m. on Friday with Rev. Norma Pogue officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside
Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorials in the name of Ellsworth G. Brasted may be made

4. Lura CARTER was born in 1870 and died in 1914 at an estimated age of 44 years. She married Richard H. THATCHER. Their marriage date and his dates are unknown. They had a daughter Aleen THATCHER.
OBITUARY--MRS. R.P. THATCHER
Lura T. Thatcher, wife of R.P. Thatcher, died at her home in this village at
11:15 Friday, after as illness of several months. She was 44 years, 8 months and
24 days of age.
Mrs. Thatcher was born and had spent her entire life in the town ot Canisteo,
and was highly respected by all who knew her. She was an earnest christain and a
member of the Presbyterian Church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Thatcher is survived by one daughter, Aleen, her
mother, Mrs. Cynthia Carter; one brother George Carter; three sisters, Mrs. F.D.
Smith, Mrs. J.H. Brasted and Mrs. Ray Cummings all of Canisteo.
The funeral which was largely attended, was held at 2:30 p.m. Monday from the
Presbyterian Church, the pastor, Rev. J.C. Glover, Officiating. Burial in
Hillside Cemetery.
