Our Success Stories

Occasionally, the search for information pays off and "Most Wanted" family members are properly located in the family tree. When it happens, that person or those persons are moved to this list to help me remember the successes.

Alfred Thomas Manchee first seen in FreeBMD, married in Bethnal Green in 1871. Now linked in through data provided by Jill Hill, identified as the son of Robert Peter Manchee.

Alfred Thomas Manchee, first seen on a genealogy website operated by Oliver Tooley. Resolved through collaboration with Oliver and Jill Hill, identified as the son of Edward George Manchee.

Edward Manchee, first seen in FreeBMD b.Dec 1901 Bethnal Green, has been identified by Jill Hill by means of his birth certificate. Edward was a son of Robert Peter Manchee (b.1881), Jill's grandfather.

Eric Best Manchee, first seen in the Biography and Genealogy Master Index, American Men and Women of Science. Identity established as the son of Ernest Oliver Manchee by Janice Manchee in a post to William Manchee's website. Copy of the biography obtained at a later time.

Eva Manchee, b. Dec 1877, Greenwich, Kent/Surrey, England, ref: FreeBMD. The only name match in the database was Eva Manchee, b. 1880, daughter of James Manchee. Jill Hill requested the birth certificate for Eva and determined that she was born on 20 Nov 1877 to James and Mary Elizabeth Manchee.

George Thomas Manchee and spouse Rosamund Foster were first identified to me as the heads of an unlinked Manchee family in a Manchee pedigree listing sent to me by Rev Ralph Manchee. Ralph identified this data as a listing of the data contained in a Manchee wallchart attributed to his grandfather, Rev William Manchee. Jill Hill subsequently located an 1881 Census record that confirmed this data and expanded on Rosamund's family. My records are not clear, but I believe that Jill subsequently identified George as the son of Thomas Manchee whom she has now linked into the Manchee mainstream. Jill Hill has also located a St. Matthew Parish printout that establishes formerly unlinked Eliza Sarah Manchee as a member of this same recently linked Thomas Manchee family.

Heather Manchee, nee Hennessy, first located in list of alumni of Colorado Springs Christian Schools, 1987. Fortunately, an email to Heather resulted in a quick reply from husband David Brent Manchee, already in my database. Along with an update to David's family, this also resulted in information that his father, Malcolm Bonsall Manchee, is interested in the family tree. Contact with Mal has also been established.

Helen Manchee, nee Snow, b. 5 Aug 1907 in New Jersey, d. 14 Jul 1980 in San Diego, mmn. Fredendall, ref. California Deaths, 1940-1997. Helen has been tentatively identified as the second wife of Stuart Manchee, son of Percy Dawson Manchee. This tentative link is made based soley on her age and unique given name, and the fact that Stuart's second wife was said to have lived in the Northeastern US. This information was provided by Cynthia Jackson, based on records kept by grandfather Reginald Phillips Manchee and mother Coralynn Davis.

Laurie Manchee, first seen on a website operated by Meg Stokes in Melbourne AU. She had an 'orphan' Laurie Manchee, male, who married into her family. I had a single Laurie Manchee, female, not married, sibling of Frank Manchee. After some discussion, and a review of a letter from Frank Manchee to Lois Manchee elsewhere in this website, both sides were able to confirm a Laurie Manchee and Margaret Littlejohn trip to Australia in 1976. I was rewarded with the names of Laurie's wife and children. Meg was rewarded with Laurie's family connections.

Louisa Manchee, b. Sep 1895, Hackney, London, Middlesex, England, original source: FreeBMD. Louisa has now been identified as the daughter of Peter Frederick Manchee (1874) based on 1901 UK Census date located by Jill Hill.

Mandana Manchee was first located and contacted by mail by Jill Hill several years ago. Mandana replied saying that she was the ex-daughter-in-law of Geoffrey Paul Manchee. This information was recently resurrected by Jill and Mandana is now very tentatively identified as Noel Clifford's (below) ex-wife. Additional information or confirmation is welcomed.

Noel Clifford Manchèe, first seen on a website where he was given photographic credit. Further searches turned up an email address, and contact was made. Some of the details are still being gathered, but Noel is identified as the son of Geoffry Paul Manchèe, grandson of James Paul Manchèe. Noel provided images of the birth certificates of his father and grandfather.

Patrick Manchee, first seen on a bulletin board asking about Penfield High School, Penfield NY. Later identified as the son of Charles Edward Manchee in correspondence from Barbara Manchee by way of Gail (Manchee) Mapel. Limited contact has since been made, hopefully more to come.

Peter Manchee (1845), son of Simon Peter Manchee (1813) and Sophia Staker, married to Emma Home, has been tentatively linked to Peter Manchee, head of a family recently located by Jill Hill, recorded in the 1891 Census. This connection was established based on birth/christening date, spousal given name, and the fact that both families had only one son (Peter Frederick, below).

Peter Manchee, first identified as the grandfather of Roy Alan Manchee, has been tentatively identified as Peter Franklin Manchee (1874), a member of the Peter Manchee (1845) family located by Jill Hill in the 1891 Census. Peter's middle name was established as Franklin, rather than Frederick as was identified in FreeBMD, by birth index information provided by Christine Smith. This connection was established based on the name, a birth year consistent with Roy's fathers age, the proximity of the two families in the Hackney area, and the fact that no other Peter Manchee exists in our database that is close to a match. Hopefully other family members will come forward with information to corroborate or dispel this linkage. Please notify Jill or myself if you have additional information on Peter Manchee. Reginald Phillips Manchee - This story began as a search for Uncle Noel Manchee, based on memories of a boyhood trip to Chicago on or about 1928. These are amazingly detailed memories that included a large comfortable home, a croquet game on an connecting grassy lot, and an uncle who, based on his business dress, was believed to be a successful Chicago businessman. He drove a Willis Knight 4 door sedan with mohair upholstrey. At one point during a tour of Chicago, he and a senior Manchee accompanying them stopped and pointed up to their offices. The existance of this uncle was reported in several letters from Don McCurdy to Lois Steury, in which he recalled (and still recalls) that bus trip at the age of 8 with his mother and grandmother from Detroit to Chicago. In one of those letters, Don suggested that Lois check the 1928 Chicago telephone directory for verification of the name, which she did. Her files contain copies of the Manchee pages of the Chicago books for 1926-1930, which list only Oliver A. and Reginald P. Manchee. When asked about that letter recently, Don again repeated that suggestion, so this search has now been concluded based on those results. Except for the name, most of the above memories are consistent with Reginald, second cousin to Don's mother, being "Noel". Reginald was a successful businessman, rising to Vice-President of a Chicago construction company. Reginald's father Oliver was a cousin of Don's grandmother. Reginald's descendants are not completely satisfied with this resolution, since they do not believe that Reginald owned a car before the 1930's.  Also, Don's description of the home is not consistent with their recollection the homes of Reginald or Oliver. It is possible that the home that Don described was that of Reginald's father-in-law, which more closely matched the description provided. That house no longer exists in that location but a photo remains and perhaps Don will be able to identify it. The Willis Knight automobile remains unexplained. So, although the Noel Manchee puzzle has been resolved to Don's satisfaction, loose ends still remain.

Richard J. Manchee, aka RJ Manchee and Richard Manchee; a name frequently seen in web searches for the Manchee surname. Richard has been identified by Roy Manchee as a first cousin. Richard is now included with Roy in the Peter Manchee family above. Contact with Richard was established on Aug 09, 2002.

Roy Manchee, University of Wales College, Newport, South Wales, UK; author of letters to Lois Manchee in 1996 regarding family tree. Until recently, efforts to reach him via various email addresses have failed. According to information provided by Christine Muschamp and Jill Hill, Peter Manchee identified his father Roy as the son of George William Manchee and the grandson of Peter Manchee. Information provided by Peter led to email contact with Roy Alan Manchee, who has confirmed/updated the information provided by his son. This family is now included in the Peter Manchee Family referenced above. (Jul 21, 2002)

Unknown Manchee, married to Charmian Vaughan, first seen on Knight / Vaughan family website. The unknown husband was quickly identified as Frank C. Manchee based on Charmian's uncommon given name.

Vila Insixiengmay, married to Ryan Lee Jarrell, first seen on a website operated by Jane McClure. Vila was believed to be related to Khamvay Insisiengmay. Vila has assured Jane that her surname was unique to Thailand, not related to the Lao family name. So, Vila is clearly NOT a cousin.

William Manchee, attorney and fiction writer, frequently seen in web searches for Manchee surname. Recently identified as William Leonard Manchee, son of Leonard Theodore Manchee.
