Website Revision History

27 Jan 2008 - This change will be the first since my computer crashed in Jul 2007.  This change is a sad one.  My sister, Lois A. Steury, died 24 Jan, 2008.  Details and obiturary will follow.  Changes to the Manchee/Blakeley pedigree charts cannot be made at this time.  My database was lost in the 2007 crash.  I have been gradually rebuilding a 2006 backup copy to the Jul 2007 level.  I'll resume publishing pedigree chart updates when that is accomplished.

19 Mar 2006 - You may have noticed that a spammer visited my guestbook a number of times, and had to show off his intelligence by dumping all over it. My first response was been to clean it up, did that several times, and today I'm making the original guestbook read only. That has been done already. No entries allowed now, but if you really gotta have an entry, send me an email and I'll post it for you. Shortly, maybe even by this evening, I'll kickoff a new guestbook that is easier for me to maintain and I expect to be able to block abusers.

26 Sep 2005 - Revised the Manchee pedigree charts based on a request made by an offspring of William Harding and Clara Manchee. The first request was to remove all evidence of the divorced father of her children. I was unwilling to revise history in that manner. Then I was asked that I delete her and her family completely, citing a security concern. Instead I followed the common practice for protecting the identity of family members. The names of all indivicuals in that family were changed to "living". I will gladly restore any name when requested by the individual involved.

16 Aug 2005 - Updated the home page...removed the link to Gendex.com (they went out of business), added additional People Search links, changed image of yours truly. Promise to get busy soon on long overdue updates.

23 Dec 2004 - Updated the Pedigree Charts reflecting many changes collected since the last update.

1 May 2004 - Updated the Manchee coat of arms on the Home Page with one that was extracted from a W.H.Manchee manuscript in the possession of Liz Manchee. Still hoping to obtain a copy of that manuscript.

25 Apr 2004 - Updated Pedigree charts reflecting many of the changes mentioned below, including additonal family data provided by Mary Della Malva.

22 Apr 2004 - Updated the Manchee contributers chart to include Mary Della Malva, nee Larkin, who signed the guestbook and provided name corrections for her mother, her uncle Robert, her sister Margaret, and her married name.

15 Feb 2004 - At the suggestion of Jill Hill, a photo of yours truly has been added to the home page. Also, a number of minor changes were made. There is still an error with the labels for the Google radio buttons. I'm waiting for a reply from Google to correct it.

15 Feb 2004 - Removed mention of two space hogs. The notify feature has never been used and the need for Heraldry help has been fulfilled by a web link provided by Jeffrey Mance, who has provided a wealth of data on the Manchee chain that turned up in his research of his family name. Most of his contributions remain to be entered in the database, and represent the bulk of my backlog other than photo processing.

10 Feb 2004 - Updated the Manchee contributers chart to include Ross Culver from New Zealand who provided critical information to fill in a major senior branch of the Manchee tree.

24 Jan 2004 - Updated the Manchee contributers chart to include Elaine Jackson and Kathy Gibbons.

16 Dec 2003 - Manchee pedigree charts were uploaded, reflecting changes to the Clara Winnifred Defriez Harding branch provived by Mary Scott Carmichael Hofferber and updates to the Albert William Manchee branch provided by Rev. Paul Edwin Hunt. More information has come in from Paul that will hopefully be posted shortly.

11 Nov 2003 - Added home page "Related Site" links to Liz and John Manchee's website, and to my website at Rootsweb World Connect, which offers a GEDCOM file of my pedigree data (will be updated soon).

11 Nov 2003 - Manchee pedigree chart revised to identify spouses known to have left the Manchee clan as a result of divorce. The suffix of (div) is appended to each name.

11 Nov 2003 - Manchee pedigree chart updated to include the final delivery of snippets from Jill Hill before leaving for two weeks Holiday.

30 Oct 2003 - Annnounced the move of this site to Rootsweb on the home page.

28 Oct 2003 - Manchee contributers chart updated to include Elizabeth (Liz) Manchee.

28 Oct 2003 - Manchee pedigree chart updated to include many snippets recently provided by Jill Hill.

23 Oct 2003 - Reestablished contact with Liz Manchee. She was forgiving enough to send copies of my lost email, and she also forwarded a gedcom file from her database that she has been working on since May. I'm also hopeful Liz will share a wealth of information about her branch of the Manchee family and our "de Monchy" roots.

29 Sep 2003 - Manchee pedigree chart updated.

28 Sep 2003 - Making plans to relocate this website to Rootsweb.

28 Sep 2003 - Making preparations to update pedigree chart asap.

28 Sep 2003 - The Manchee contributors chart was revised to include Simon Manchee. Simon provided detail on his position in the tree, and I'm hoping for additional detail on his immediate family, his branch, our Manchee ancestors, and the "de Monchy" crest.

28 Sep 2003 - The Manchee contributors chart was revised to include Steven T. Manchee and Jaime Manchee. Steven provided detail on his father and children and I'm hoping for more detail on Stephen's branch of the family.

22 May 2003 - Liz Manchee signed our guestbook and established email contact while I was visiting the U.K this summer. Unfortunately I dropped the ball while returning to the U.S. and lost her email and all of the detail she provided. Unfortunately, I have not been able to restablish contact.

12 Mar - Promoted Louisa Manchee from the Most Wanted list to the Success Stories list, based on 1901 UK Census data provded by Jill Hill.

05 Jan - Added an article named "Heraldry Help Wanted"

22 Dec - After taking some time off for personal activities and heart valve replacement, I am now beginning to address the huge backlog of photos and other inputs now sitting on my desk waiting to be added to the website. The first Pedigree chart update in several months is planned for tonight.

20 Nov - Based on further discussion with Christine Smith, and followup discussion with Jill Hill, it has been determined that Peter Manchee's middle name was actually Frederick, and not Franklin as indicated in the 12 Oct update provided below. The sources for this assertion will appear in the next update to the pedigree chart.

17 Nov - The Manchee contributors chart was revised to be consistent regarding married female Manchee descendants, i.e. married surnames are now shown for all.

17 Nov - Deborah Harding has found this website and sent in some family information. I'm hoping to receive more. She has been added to the Manchee contributers list.

26 Oct - Laurence Manchee signed the guestbook and has agreed to help fill in the family tree.

25 Oct - A new branch of the family has been contacted. (Victor) Neill Manchée has found this website and contacted me by email. He has provided data that confirms the lineage we show for him, and he has also provided some interesting new early historical information that is now being studied.

14 Oct - Andrea Caroline Manchée has been added to the Notable Kin section.

12 Oct - A pattern regarding the spelling of our surname has appeared in three lines descending from James Manchée, b. 1831. Contributers from descendants of James Paul, Arthur Jenkins, and Sydney all spell their names with the acute e, i.e. "Manchée". This spelling was also used by Rosemary when she identified the home of James Manchée in a photograph. Any insight into the history of this spelling, which was mentioned in a letter from Frank Manchee, would be welcomed.

12 Oct - By way of Jill Hill, Rosemary Manchée has provided additional information (names, dates, places, photos) about the Arthur Jenkins Manchée branch.

12 Oct - Based on birth index data provided by Christine Smith, names and places the offspring of Peter Manchee, Roy Manchee's great grandfather, have been corrected. Most notable is that Roy's grandfather's name has changed from Peter Frederick to Peter Franklin, raising speculation that Ebenezer Manchee was involved with that family in one way or another.

12 Oct - Thanks to her diligence, Jill Hill has identified Most Wanted Edward Manchee as a son of Robert Peter Manchee, her grandfather, by means of his birth certificate, and he has now become one of our Success Stories.

12 Oct - My former spouse, Lois Ann Manchee, died as a result of cancer on 8 Oct, 2002. She was buried on 11 Oct, 2002.

11 Oct - Corrected the spelling of the names of members of the George Manchee family, i.e. Eliza and young George, based on birth records provided by Connie Boyne-Manchee.

09 Oct - Thanks to Valerie Manchée, widow of Alan Eric Manchée, a significant extension to his branch of the Manchee tree has been provided. Valerie has also been added to the Contributers chart.

27 Sep - Added the William Henry Manchee Wedding (1938), thanks to Jill Hill.

27 Sep - Added the Ralph Harvey Family photo album. I'm worried that the color images take too long to load. I plan to try some things to make it faster, before I resort to reducing the size of the image. Comments would be welcomed.

27 Sep - Changed the name of this list to "Recent Updates to this Website"

27 Sep - Reversed the order of this list, to put the new stuff at the top.

24 Sep - Moved Eva Manchee from the Most Wanted list to the Success Stories list based on Jill Hill's retrieval of Eva's birth certificate.

22 Sep - Added a family unit to the Most Wanted list - Charles Manchee and family. Found in the 1881 UK Census by Jill Hill, but remains unlinked in our database.

15 Sep - All Manchee births in the FreeBMD have now been accounted for. Most were linked to individuals in the existing database. Three were added to the Most Wanted list.

15 Sep - Detailed information on the residences and employment of members of the Martha Budd Manchee nee Defriez family in the late 1800s has recently been added. These records were collected by Cynthia Jackson and her sister from the City Directories at the Toronto Public Library on a recent trip.

15 Sep - Also thanks to Gail Mapel, burial records from the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, NJ document the buriel of a number of members of Rev William Manchee's family.

15 Sep - Thanks to Gail Mapel and Connie Boyne-Manchee, considerable additional information has been added to the Rev William Manchee chart, relevant to his pastorates in England and Canada.

The Manchee contributors chart has been revised to include David Kenneth Manchee and Lori Kirton.

All of the Manchee's listed in the Social Security Death Index have now been either linked to the family tree or added to the Most Wanted page.

George Manchee, possibly our first American cousin, has been added to the Most Wanted page.
