Introduction

This is the story of my immigrant ancestors, Peter McDougall and Catherine Campbell, who left Scotland in the early 19 th century to build a new life in the Canadian wilderness. They lived out their lives in what is now eastern Ontario, but most of their children opted instead to move their families west along the retreating frontier. At least four of Peter and Catherine's sons eventually settled in central Minnesota. It is on these families that this document will focus, especially the McDougall families that settled in what is now Morrison County, Minnesota.

This is primarily a research document, based on sparse records that sometimes contain confusing or conflicting information. More study will undoubtedly produce a clearer picture of who these people were and how they lived their lives, but the picture that has emerged at this point is clear enough to share with a wider audience. The genealogy is incomplete, and I am sure that it contains errors. I would appreciate any corrections, clarifications, or additions that the reader may have to offer.
